About the role:

We are seeking a mission-driven, collaborative, and highly motivated individual to join HoneyBook as our Associate General Counsel. This role offers a unique opportunity to drive all legal initiatives across the organization, supporting HoneyBook’s growth. You thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment, skillfully balancing legal risks with business objectives while providing practical and strategic advice to key stakeholders and teams across the company.
As a key partner to the organization, you will oversee all legal matters, including commercial agreements, employment law, corporate governance, intellectual property, and privacy compliance. You will play an integral role in shaping and implementing scalable legal processes and frameworks.

This role is hybrid to our SF office, 2-3 days per week (current expectation is Wednesdays and Thursdays in-office).

Here are a few of the things you will do:

  • Drive all legal initiatives across the organization, providing guidance and strategic advice to leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of commercial agreements, including partnership, licensing, vendor, and data-related contracts.
  • Advise on product development and intellectual property matters, ensuring compliance with privacy, data protection, and other relevant laws.
  • Provide legal guidance on marketing and advertising initiatives, including reviewing campaigns, promotional materials, and partnerships to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Oversee corporate governance, including board and subsidiary governance, and support strategic initiatives.
  • Build and manage privacy and data protection compliance programs, ensuring adherence to regulations such as GDPR and CCPA, and providing education and guidance to internal teams.
  • Develop and refine internal legal processes to improve efficiency, scalability, and compliance across the company.
  • Manage relationships with external counsel, ensuring effective use of outside resources as needed.
  • Partner with HR on employment-related legal matters, including compliance with labor laws, workplace policies, and employee relations.
  • Identify potential legal risks proactively and propose practical solutions to address them while supporting business objectives.

Here is what we’re looking for in a candidate:

  • J.D. degree and membership in a U.S. State Bar.
  • 7+ years of legal experience, including expertise in commercial transactions, intellectual property, and privacy counseling for technology companies (in-house or law firm).
  • Strong understanding of privacy and data protection laws, including GDPR and CCPA, with experience building and implementing compliance programs.
  • Deep knowledge of intellectual property law and open-source software compliance, with the ability to develop and execute IP strategies.
  • Proven ability to manage complex negotiations and deliver practical, business-oriented legal solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey legal concepts clearly to non-legal stakeholders.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a focus on balancing risk mitigation and business enablement.
  • Experience with fintech-related agreements or high-growth technology companies is a plus.

    • Base pay is $192,000 - $235,000 depending on experience and skills.
  • Benefits & perks: From wellness programs to exceptional family leave policies, the health and happiness of our employees are foremost.

Our core values:
