We are looking for our next Vice President of Engineering to lead our engineering team in delivering products that are dynamic, adaptable, and continuously improving while maintaining reliability and scalability. This role is critical in shaping Loop’s engineering execution strategy, fostering a culture of accountability and excellence, and ensuring our technical infrastructure supports our ambitious growth plans.

Right away, we’ve listed what we think you’ll be spending your time on. We’re growing fast, and growth means the challenges we’ll work on together will change as we lead Loop through new and different phases.

This is an indispensable role with us, so we’ll be looking for you to have examples of when you’ve tackled these challenges throughout your career. We’ve laid out the experience we think is important to set you up for success in this role. But, we appreciate that different humans will solve problems in different ways, so we don’t expect you to fit exactly in a box of requirements.

At Loop, we believe that flexibility and choice are what allow you to do your best work. With our Blended Working Environment, you have options ranging from joining our HQ office (in Columbus, Ohio), opting into a Hub (a location with 4+ team members), or staying totally secluded (our version of remote). Our team is spread across the United States, select provinces in Canada (Ontario & British Columbia), and the United Kingdom. Wherever you live, you can create the work environment that best matches your preferences and lifestyle.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead and inspire the engineering team. Set a clear vision for how the team operates, nurture the team’s professional growth, and ensure everyone understands how their work connects to Loop’s strategy, mission, vision, and values.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement. Drive team efficiency and optimal delivery along with continuous improvement by evolving org design, refining processes, leveraging tools like AI and offshore resources, and maintaining a high bar for performance. Encourage experimentation, foster collaboration, and celebrate shared success.
  • Champion technical excellence. Ensure our systems are performant, scalable, and designed for long-term success, leveraging your expertise in modern software development and infrastructure practices.
  • Own the Engineering roadmap. Collaborate with cross-functional leaders to execute on our platform vision and guide the team to execute it with excellence.
  • Collaborate across teams. Partner closely with Product, Design, Data, GTM, and other areas of Loop to create a cohesive experience for our merchants and their customers.
  • Prioritize our merchant’s feedback. Focus on delivering features that resonate with merchants, using their feedback to guide execution and ensure new product and feature releases are tailored for seamless adoption.
  • Grow the engineering team. Maintain a high bar for talent by hiring exceptional individuals, providing clear feedback, fostering growth and development, and driving performance management practices that align with Loop’s values while creating an equitable, high-performing team.
  • Navigate change and ambiguity. Bring clarity and focus as we grow rapidly, helping the team adapt while staying anchored to our mission.
  • Represent engineering at the executive level. Serve as a trusted partner to the leadership team, providing thoughtful insights that shape Loop’s broader business strategies, while creating transparency into engineering operations.
  • Build for the future. Proactively identify challenges, opportunities, and emerging technologies to ensure Loop stays ahead in a competitive landscape.

Your experience:

  • 15+ years of experience in software engineering, including at least 8+ years in leadership roles, and 2+ years at the VP level within SaaS and high-growth companies.
  • Experience with modern cloud infrastructure, ideally in a B2B SaaS or eCommerce setting.
  • A passion for people-first leadership with a focus on coaching, mentoring, and developing future leaders.
  • A track record of fostering diverse and inclusive teams, with specific examples of how you’ve improved equity and belonging.
  • Deep knowledge of scalable architecture and a history of leading teams that build secure, reliable, and maintainable systems.
  • Strong technical acumen combined with the ability to translate complex ideas into clear, actionable strategies.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence and engage at all levels, from engineers to executive stakeholders.
  • Experience partnering with Product, Data and Design teams to deliver cohesive, customer-centric solutions.
  • Talented at navigating ambiguity and driving clarity, with a balance of empathy and directness in your communication style.
  • A proactive problem solver who anticipates challenges and gets in front of them with creative, data-driven solutions.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset with a history of operating in fast-paced, rapidly evolving environments.
  • A commitment to continuous improvement, always seeking opportunities to enhance processes and outcomes.

Loop Story

In a perfect world, Loop wouldn't exist. If we had our way, we'd live in a world where we're mindful about how we consume, we love every product we own, and we share values with the brands who create them. In reality, commerce isn't perfect and often breaks. Loop creates second chances.

We're starting by revolutionizing the post-purchase experience. We've taken one of the most fragile commerce interactions - returns - and turned it into something consumers actually love, and that deepens our connection to brands and products.

We take connection seriously on the inside, too. We're building a work experience that allows you to Be A Human First and prioritizes empathy and wellbeing. We view Loop as a special place in your career to shape the future of an industry and become a better person while doing it. You can grow faster here in a shorter amount of time - we'll give you space and trust you to fill it.
