About Care.com

Care.com is a consumer tech company with heart. We’re on a mission to solve a human challenge we all face: finding great care for the ones we love. We’re moms and dads and pet parents. We have parents and grandparents so we understand that everyone, at some point in their lives, could use a helping hand. Our culture and our products reflect that.

Care.com offers an array of services that enable families to find, manage and pay for care and provide employment opportunities for caregivers. Our engineering organization is reimagining our tech stacks and consolidating to a single cloud native platform so we can test and learn faster. The new platform is composed of gRPC microservices and Lambdas in Go, Kafka streams, DynamoDB, Elasticsearch, GraphQL, and micro-frontends on Node and React. We're utilizing industry best practices and tools like OpenTelemetry, Splunk, Github, SignalFX, Figma, and others to make our lives easier.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a dynamic and strategic Vice President of Engineering to lead Care.com’s product engineering organization into its next chapter of growth and innovation. This is a rare opportunity to shape the technology behind a product that touches millions of lives—while also building the systems that power meaningful partnerships with employers and organizations across the country.

The ideal candidate brings deep experience delivering high-impact consumer products and understands what it takes to scale for enterprise clients. You’ll be responsible for leading multiple engineering teams focused on delivering exceptional experiences across our platforms—from the core consumer marketplace to the tools that help employers support their employees’ care needs.

This role calls for a hands-on leader who blends technical excellence with cross-functional collaboration, and who thrives on building inclusive, high-performing teams. You’ll partner closely with Product, Design, and Business leaders to align on goals, drive execution, and ensure our solutions meet the evolving needs of both families and partners.

Work Environment: Hybrid - in office Monday, Wednesday & Thrusday
Locations: Salt Lake City, Utah | Austin, Texas | Dallas, Texas | New York, NY

What You’ll Be Responsible For

  • Lead with Vision & Purpose: Shape and execute the engineering strategy in alignment with product and business goals—particularly across our Enterprise and B2B offerings, ensuring we meet the needs of organizations supporting their employees’ care journeys.

  • Build & Scale Teams: Hire, coach, and retain top engineering talent. Create an inclusive and supportive environment where diverse voices are heard, growth is encouraged, and high standards are the norm.

  • Drive Cross-Functional Execution: Partner closely with Product, Design, and Data to define and deliver customer-centric solutions at speed, balancing near-term delivery with long-term platform health.

  • Elevate Engineering Excellence: Foster best practices in software development, system design, reliability, and operational excellence. Promote thoughtful experimentation, automation, and continuous improvement.

  • Champion the Enterprise Experience: Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand customer needs and build the infrastructure and experiences that make Care.com indispensable to our employer partners and their employees.

  • Empower Culture & Inclusion: Be a culture carrier. Model values-driven leadership, empathy, and transparency. Champion diversity and inclusion at every level.

What Will Help You Succeed

  • 15+ years of engineering experience, including 6+ years leading large, distributed technical teams

  • A strong track record building and scaling user-facing digital products in fast-paced, high-growth environments

  • Demonstrated success in a leadership role driving product-engineering collaboration with measurable business outcomes

  • Experience supporting or building both consumer facing and B2B products

  • Comfort balancing strategic thinking with day-to-day team needs

  • Exceptional communication and storytelling skills, with an ability to connect technical solutions to user and business value

  • A passion for building inclusive teams, mentoring others, and leading with empathy

  • Familiarity with modern development tools and architectures (e.g., microservices, event-driven systems, cloud-native environments)
