Niantic’s AR Web / 8th Wall Team is seeking an adventurous Computer Vision Software Engineer with a focus on edge compute. We seek engineers with solid track record working on hard computer vision technologies running at edge on mobile devices in both browser and native. The ideal candidate loves to jump into the unknown, clarify ambiguities, quickly learn from failures, and break down vague ideas into concrete tasks.
Responsibilities
- Architect and implement computer vision pipelines that run completely on edge devices and fit extremely tight performance bounds.
- Build runtimes that span iOS, Android, WASM to perform both training and inferences of neural networks at edge.
- Build API that multiplex into these runtimes, so they can be integrated into our existing systems and products.
- Collaborate between web, design, and product teams to ensure the goals of the product are aligned with the delivered feature or service.
- Participate in code reviews, write unit tests, and conduct troubleshooting to ensure correctness of the API implementation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional team members and stakeholders to cultivate strong working relationships with project team members, including regular and reliable attendance and participation in meetings.
- Required in-office 2 days a week in our San Francisco office. One of the days has to be Wednesdays.
Qualifications
- BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- Minimum 7 years of working experience developing Computer Vision applications in C++.
- Proficiency in JavaScript / Typescript.
- Proficiency in WebAssembly integration via C++.
- Proficiency in iOS and Android native ecosystems.
- Proficiency in Neural Network training and inferences using
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle stress appropriately and/or ability to solve practical problems and be sufficiently adaptable to handle dynamic situations with little advance notice.
- Experience working on cross-functional teams with ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal communications, including synchronous interactions with others.

The total compensation package for this position includes a new hire offer base salary range of $243,900.00 - $271,000.00 + bonus + equity + benefits.
Individual pay within this salary range is determined by work location and additional factors, including assessed job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
