Software Engineer II - Java Spring Boot & Automation Developer

As a Software Engineer II at JPMorgan Chase within the Commercial and Investment Bank, you are part of an agile team that works to enhance, design, and deliver the software components of the firm's state-of-the-art technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. As an emerging member of a software engineering team, you will play a critical role in automating testing, improving test coverage, and validating the performance, security, and reliability of both frontend and backend code before deployment. You will collaborate with developers, QA engineers, and product owners to ensure seamless, high-quality software delivery, while gaining the skills and experience needed to grow within your role.
Job responsibilities
- Develop and maintain Java microservices using Sprint Boot, ensuring high code quality and reliable functionality
- Develop and maintain React (TypeScript/JavaScript) micro frontends, ensuring code quality and functionality are rigorously tested
- Take ownership of the quality engineering process across both the frontend and backend, ensuring tests are automated, comprehensive, and efficient
- Executes standard software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting
- Writes secure and high-quality code using the syntax of at least one programming language with limited guidance
- Design, implement, and maintain automated unit tests, integration tests, and end-to-end tests for both frontend and backend code using tools like Junit, Jest, Cypress and Selenium
- Perform code reviews with a focus on improving code quality, testability, and maintainability
- Actively contribute to improving testing frameworks, testing strategies, and best practices to ensure optimal quality, and contribute to the creation of comprehensive test plans and documentation to ensure clear communication around software quality expectations
- Applies knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain to improve the value realized by automation
- Learns and applies system processes, methodologies, and skills for the development of secure, stable code and systems

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 2+ years of applied experience
- Solid experience with setting up and maintaining test automation frameworks such as, Junit, Cypress, Selenium, Jest, or Mocha for both backend and frontend components)
- Familiarity with or experience in Test-Driven Development and writing tests before code is implemented
- Experience with performance and load testing using tools like JMeter, Gatling, and/or LoadRunner to ensure scalability and responsiveness of the application
- Working knowledge of Java and Spring Boot for building and testing microservices and RESTful APIs
- Working knowledge of React (JavaScript and/or TypeScript), or other front-end frameworks, to build and test responsive and dynamic user experiences
- Emerging knowledge of software applications and technical processes within a technical discipline (e.g., cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning, mobile, etc.)
- Hands-on practical experience in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability
- Experience in developing, debugging, and maintaining code in a large corporate environment with one or more modern programming languages and database querying languages
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Familiarity with modern front-end technologies and design patterns such as micro frontends
- Exposure to cloud technologies
- Experience using AI tools to discover and implement appropriate tests
- AWS Certification(s) (Associate or above)
