The role

We’re looking for a Soft Goods Developer to help create innovative products from concept through to production. You'll take ownership of the soft goods in complex technology products like the Pod Cover as well as new products in development. You’ll be part of a small, mission-driven team and have significant ownership over decisions. We’re growing quickly so there are ample opportunities for career growth. The position is based out of our San Francisco office and requires ~20% travel to China to support manufacturing activities.

This role is based out of our San Francisco Office.

How you’ll contribute

  • Lead development of soft goods for our products including material selection, construction, and design.

  • Work closely with mechanical engineering, industrial design, and manufacturing teams to integrate soft goods into larger technology products that are beautiful, comfortable, and meet functional requirements such as thermal performance and reliability .

  • Develop tech packs for soft goods elements of our products, including the fabric portions of our Pod Cover, as well as textile-only products like sheets.

  • Conduct user and functional testing to inform product development efforts.

  • Travel to Asia as needed to coordinate with suppliers to identify materials (fabrics, trims), as well as oversee development of samples and production.

  • Create soft goods prototypes in our SF office through different methods such as stitching and bonding.

What you need to succeed

  • 3-5 years of experience in the design of soft goods products, ideally across technical products (e.g. bags, outerwear) as well as fashion.

  • Expertise with fabric materials and cut-and-sew manufacturing processes.

  • Strong sewing skills to create complex prototypes quickly.

  • Willingness and ability to travel to China as needed.

  • Experience working with overseas vendors for high volume production.

  • Familiarity with 3D CAD (e.g. Solidworks, NX, Creo) ideal but not required.
