Figure is an AI Robotics company developing the general purpose humanoid Figure and a new teleoperation platform. We target use cases in the industry and home. We are based in San Jose, CA and require 5 days/week in-office collaboration. It’s time to build.

We are looking for a soft goods engineer to design the human machine interfaces between the teleoperation system and the user. 

Responsibilities:

  • Architect the ways users will wear the teleoperation platform, with focus on backpack and glove design
  • Architect and design textile, silicone and soft polymer parts in CAD
  • Select materials for softgoods parts based on design requirements from hardware and ID teams
  • Select manufacturing processes based on design requirements from hardware and ID teams
  • Interface closely with mechanical, ID, and electrical engineering teams
  • Work with manufacturing partners to get parts produced
  • Generate accurate 2D drawings using GD&T per ASME Y14.5
  • Inspect first articles, build test stands, and continuously support and improve parts on the robot
  • Travel 10-20% of the time


Requirements: 

  • 5+ years of experience in softgoods
  • Expert in using 3D CAD software to design parts with complex geometry
  • Experience designing and building softgoods prototypes and production parts
  • Experience working with outside manufacturers to get parts produced to your specifications
  • Experience selecting polymers and textiles
  • Ability to write and maintain clean documentation for your design process
  • Experience with manufacturing techniques such as overmolding, knitting, weaving, heat press etc.


Bonus Qualifications: 

  • Experience designing plastic injection molded parts, foam parts and CNC parts
  • Experience with high volume manufacturing processes
  • Experienced with simulation and analysis methodology (FEA, MATLAB etc.)
  • Experience with moving fabrics
  • CATIA V6 Experience

The US base salary range for this full-time position is between $175,000 - $240,000 annually.

The pay offered for this position may vary based on several individual factors, including job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package may also include additional components/benefits depending on the specific role. This information will be shared if an employment offer is extended.
