Who we are

Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations™ Cloud, which is a platform that enables organizations that depend on physical operations to harness Internet of Things (IoT) data to develop actionable insights and improve their operations. At Samsara, we are helping improve the safety, efficiency and sustainability of the physical operations that power our global economy. Representing more than 40% of global GDP, these industries are the infrastructure of our planet, including agriculture, construction, field services, transportation, and manufacturing — and we are excited to help digitally transform their operations at scale.

Working at Samsara means you’ll help define the future of physical operations and be on a team that’s shaping an exciting array of product solutions, including Video-Based Safety, Vehicle Telematics, Apps and Driver Workflows, Equipment Monitoring, and Site Visibility. As part of a recently public company, you’ll have the autonomy and support to make an impact as we build for the long term.

About the role:

The Research & Development (R&D) Strategy team drives the strategic mandate for the company by helping shape Samsara’s forward-looking growth blueprint and executing high-priority initiatives to enable product and go-to-market (GTM) success. Our goal is to function as the connective tissue between key product, engineering, sales, marketing and other cross-functional teams to accelerate Samsara’s innovation and leadership in the IoT space.

Our team is looking for a Sr. Strategy and Competitive Intelligence Associate to drive Samsara’s continued competitive leadership as we scale. You will conduct comprehensive market and competitive assessments to inform strategic decisions, monitor industry trends and emerging threats to provide timely and actionable intelligence, present operationally-relevant insights to senior leadership, and lead in-market execution excellence with our customer-facing teams.

The ideal candidate is scrappy, thrives in a fast-paced environment, excels at high-quality quantitative and qualitative analyses, and has prior management consulting experience. This is a highly visible role and involves forming close partnerships with business leaders across Samsara. If you are eager to contribute to Samsara’s strategic vision and have a keen eye for market and competitive dynamics, we invite you to join us and help shape the future of connected operations.

This is a remote position open to candidates residing in the US (except Alaska, Austin metro, California, Chicago metro, Connecticut, Dallas metro, Denver metro, Houston metro, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Washington, and Washington DC metro). This position may require some travel (10% of the time), and proximity to an international airport is required. Relocation assistance will not be provided for this role.

You should apply if:

  • You want to impact the industries that run our world: Your efforts will result in real-world impact—helping to keep the lights on, get food into grocery stores, reduce emissions, and most importantly, ensure workers return home safely.
  • You are the architect of your own career: If you put in the work, this role won’t be your last at Samsara. We set up our employees for success and have built a culture that encourages rapid career development, countless opportunities to experiment and master your craft in a hyper growth environment.
  • You’re energized by our opportunity: The vision we have to digitize large sectors of the global economy requires your full focus and best efforts to bring forth creative, ambitious ideas for our customers.
  • You want to be with the best: At Samsara, we win together, celebrate together and support each other. You will be surrounded by a high-calibre team that will encourage you to do your best.
  • You are a team player: Working on our Samsara Product teams requires a mix of independent effort and collaboration. Motivated by our mission, we’re all racing toward our connected operations vision, and we intend to win—together.

In this role, you will:

  • Deeply understand Samsara’s products, sales motions and positioning in the market
  • Analyze market trends and competitive dynamics (incl. direct and emergent competitive threat vectors, market whitespace opportunities) to identify strategic opportunities and threats
  • Build a market map and competitor deep-dives (incl. landscape, financial analysis, recent moves, M&A/partnerships, product & GTM strategies, etc.) to inform strategic in-market initiatives
  • Develop and maintain a centralized database of competitive and market research in partnership with our data analytics teams (incl. data from qualitative or quantitative research, such as in-depth interviews, focus groups, surveys, or win-loss analyses)
  • Partner with cross-functional teams such as sales, product and marketing to incorporate competitive insights into our Product & GTM strategy, and lead in-market initiatives to communicate Samsara’s industry-leading value proposition for our customers
  • Generate actionable insights and presentations on market and competitive intelligence for senior leadership
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the impact of strategic initiatives and inform future planning and business growth
  • Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices

Minimum requirements for the role:

  • 2+ years of experience in management consulting, corporate strategy, strategic finance, or private equity/investment banking
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Strong financial modeling and qualitative analytics capabilities, including advanced Excel / Google Sheets and Powerpoint / Google Slides skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally in a fast-paced, often changing environment
  • Strong communication and presentation skills; comfortable presenting to senior management
  • Must be a proactive & highly organized self-starter, able to work independently under tight deadlines while maintaining attention to detail

An ideal candidate also has:

  • Direct industry experience or exposure to Saas-based technology companies
  • Undergraduate degree in quant-focused disciplines (e.g., finance / economics / accounting / mathematics / engineering / computer science) from a top university preferred
