The Fintech Risk team at Toast is responsible for driving risk-informed growth for the rapidly expanding Toast Fintech line of business. Whether it is enhancing our strategy and processes, sharpening our policies or identifying new products for our merchants, the risk team is an integral part of charting the path for the business.
We are seeking an experienced and strategic leader to join our Credit Risk function as a Senior Manager. In this crucial role, you will spearhead our credit risk strategies, lead a growing team of analysts, and drive innovation in our lending business. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in credit risk management, a passion for data-driven decision-making, and the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders.
About this roll* (Responsibilities)
- Strategic Leadership
- Develop and execute comprehensive credit risk strategies aligned with Toast's business objectives and risk appetite
- Lead initiatives to optimize credit policies, underwriting criteria, and portfolio management practices
- Drive innovation in risk assessment methodologies and tools
- Team Management and Development:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of credit risk professionals
- Foster a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and excellence
- Attract and retain top talent in the credit risk domain
- Portfolio Performance and Risk Analytics:
- Oversee portfolio health, performance metrics, and risk indicators
- Conduct advanced analytics to identify trends, opportunities, and potential risks
- Develop and implement stress testing and scenario analysis frameworks
- Maintain and update credit risk policy documents and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices
- Cross-functional Leadership:
- Collaborate with senior leadership across Product, Finance, Operations, and Engineering to drive business growth while managing risk
- Present complex risk concepts and recommendations to leadership
- Influence product development and business strategies through risk insights
- Innovation and Technology:
- Champion the adoption of advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI in credit risk management
- Drive the implementation of new risk management technologies and platforms
- Stay abreast of emerging trends and technologies in credit risk and fintech
Do you have the right ingredients*? (Requirements)
- 10+ years of experience in credit risk management, with a significant focus on strategy and leadership
- 5+ years of experience managing teams in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
- Advanced degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Statistics, Economics, Finance) or MBA
- Deep understanding of credit risk principles, regulations, and best practices in lending
- Strong proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., SQL, Python, R) and experience with risk modeling techniques
- Proven track record of implementing successful credit risk strategies and driving business results
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of an organization
- Experience in fintech or innovative lending products is highly desirable
- Able to commit to core EST working hours

The base salary range for this role is listed below. The starting salary will be determined based on skills and experience. In addition to base salary, our total rewards components include cash compensation (overtime, bonus/commissions if eligible), equity, and benefits.

$138,000—$221,000 USD
