About the Role

As Director of Demand Generation at Descript, you will be responsible for defining and executing the strategy that fuels our pipeline and revenue growth across our enterprise and self-serve business lines. You’ll own full-funnel demand creation from market awareness and lead acquisition to nurturing and conversion.

You’ll bring a blend of data-driven strategy, operational rigor, and audience insight to drive measurable impact across multiple channels and audiences. Partnering closely with Product Marketing, RevOps, and Sales, you’ll architect scalable programs that educate the market, position Descript as an industry leader, and deliver efficient pipeline acceleration.

You’ll report to the Head of Marketing and serve as a key member of the marketing leadership team, influencing company-wide GTM strategy.

What You’ll Do
  • Build and lead the overall demand generation and growth marketing strategy, across enterprise and self-serve segments, aligning to Descript’s GTM and revenue goals. We’ve done this for self-serve. We need you to help us expand to B2B including standing up a lot of net new channels like events, partnerships, and community.
  • Develop and improve the systems we use to scale pipeline generation, ensuring marketing is consistently feeding our growing sales organization.
  • Own MQLs: direct and execute integrated, multi-channel campaigns that incorporate product positioning, audience insights, and creative from fellow marketing team members.
  • Partner with leadership across Marketing, Sales, and RevOps to drive alignment on funnel KPIs; build the learning loops that power continuous improvement in our strategy, tool stack, and creative execution for awareness, nurture, and conversion.
  • Mentor and manage a team of growth marketing professionals
  • Enhance marketing automation, lead scoring, and reporting.
What You Bring
  • 10+ years of experience in B2B SaaS demand generation or growth marketing, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership role managing teams.
  • Proven track record of delivering pipeline and revenue growth.
  • Deep expertise across acquisition, engagement, and nurture channels - including paid social, email, content syndication, and partnerships.
  • Advanced knowledge of AI-powered marketing stacks and automation workflows (Cargo, Clay, n8n, Instantly Reply, or equivalent).
  • Analytical mindset with strong command of marketing metrics, attribution, and forecasting.
  • Exceptional collaboration and communication skills; able to influence cross-functional stakeholders and present to executives.
  • Strategic thinker with a bias for action - able to translate insights into scalable, creative programs that drive measurable outcomes.
Bonus Strengths
  • Experience marketing creative or AI-native products.
  • Experience with B2C growth marketing.

The base salary range for this role is $203,000-230,000. Final offer amounts will carefully consider multiple factors, including prior experience, expertise, and location, and they may vary from the amount above.

About Descript

Descript is building a simple, intuitive, fully-powered editing tool for video and audio — an editing tool built for the age of AI. We are a team of 150 and the backing of some of the world's greatest investors (OpenAI, Andreessen Horowitz, Redpoint Ventures, Spark Capital).

Descript is the special company that's in possession of both product market fit and the raw materials (passionate user community, great product, large market) for growth, but is still early enough that each new employee has a measurable influence on the direction of the company.

Benefits include a generous healthcare package, 401k matching program, catered lunches, and flexible vacation time. Our headquarters are located in the Mission District of San Francisco, CA. We're hiring for a mix of remote roles and hybrid roles.  For those who are remote, we have a handful of opportunities throughout the year for in person collaboration.  For our hybrid roles, we're flexible, and you're an adult—we don't expect or mandate that you're in the office every day. We do believe there are valuable and serendipitous moments of discovery and collaboration that come from working together in person.

Descript is an equal opportunity workplace—we are dedicated to equal employment opportunities regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender identity, or Veteran status. We believe in actively building a team rich in diverse backgrounds, experiences, and opinions to better allow our employees, products, and community to thrive.
