Calix is looking for a Data Engineer intern to join our Information Security team. In this role, you will be part of a unique and award-winning internship program within the company. The program provides the opportunity to learn new skills through training and on the job learning.

Calix is looking for a Data Engineering Intern to join our team for the summer months. This is an exciting opportunity for a rising Junior or Senior in an accredited four-year college or university on track to earn their degree. You will build and maintain our cloud-based enterprise data platform. Key areas that you will be involved in include data pipeline flow, data warehousing, security, data integrity processes, and data QA best practices. You will buildout the end-to-end ETL/ELT data environment, integrating with new technologies, and the development of new processes to support the creation and deployment of trusted, accurate and secure decision support tools to the Calix operational business units. The duration of the program is expected to be 90 days.
Responsibilities and Duties:

Implement data ingestion, ETL / ELT, data modeling, and data integration development using our cloud-based tooling including Snowflake, AWS, Fivetran, dbt, Airflow and GitHub.

Establish and maintain a DataOps approach for our data pipeline infrastructure and processes.

Create automation systems and tools to configure, monitor, and orchestrate our data infrastructure and our data pipelines.

Ensure data quality throughout all stages of acquisition and processing.

Evaluate new technologies for continuous improvement in data engineering.

Participate in project meetings, providing input to project plans and providing status updates.

A desire to work in a collaborative, intellectually curious environment.
Qualifications:

Currently pursuing an Bachelor's degree at an accredited university and returning back to school in the Fall.

Understanding of data, databases, and data structures.

Knowledge of SQL, Python or Java.

Passion for troubleshooting data issues.

High degree of organizational skill and problem-solving ability; specifically, the ability to work as self-starter.

Desire to grow professionally and collaborate with others.

Able to prioritize/execute to achieve desired company and project goals with prudence and sense of urgency.

Able to work for the complete summer break (May - August or June - September).

Compensation will vary based on geographical location (see below) within the United States. Individual pay is determined by the candidate's location of residence and multiple factors, including job-related skills, experience, and education.

San Francisco Bay Area Only:
23.00 - 29.90 USD Hourly
National Major Cities plus, CA, CO, NY Metro area:
20.00 - 26.00 USD Hourly
Regional plus NY:
18.00 - 23.40 USD Hourly
