Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, the Vice President of Business Operations and Strategic Planning is a key leader responsible for ensuring that the Product & Technology organization operates with transparency, discipline, and operational and financial excellence while fostering a culture of collaboration and inclusion.
​ The position requires an experienced executive with the ability to define and communicate organizational strategy, deliver key strategic and tactical initiatives, and continuously raise the bar on how the organization operates . This individual will require outstanding communications skills and use them to craft communications and presentations to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders including executives and board members. They will embody BlackLine's leadership principles of leading by example, communicating openly, enabling and inspiring others, exceling with partners, acting decisively, and collaborating effectively. ​

  • Operate as chief of staff for the CTO , developing organizational strategy, driving alignment across teams, coordinating staff , and rhythm of business cadence.
  • Craft external communications including customer briefings, external speaking engagements, PR activities, executive reviews, etc.
  • Develop internal-facing executive and board-level presentations to support corporate goals/initiatives and rhythm of business reviews (e.g., QBRs).
  • Lead business planning, resource allocation, location planning for headcount and datacenters , investment and business modeling, and investment ROI analysis for Product & Technology . Support the organization's long-range planning and annual operating planning and investment process.
  • Work closely with Finance and cross-functional leaders within P&T to plan and manage the budget , including hosting, headcount, and vendor spend while balanc ing the needs of technical innovation with fiscal responsibility .
  • Develop and implement consistent methods for assessing te a m performance ( KPIs ), managing risk, measuring product ROI, and developing business cases. Facilitate cross-team development of OKRs and drive accountability for organizational initiatives .
  • Empower a global engineering team through employee engagement, communications, learning and development. Includes onboarding, engagement, training, team activities, etc.
  • Drive cross-functional strategic initiatives tied to transformation and change . Developing processes and standards across the organization. Ensuring initiatives have documentation, regular reporting, standardization, etc.
  • Lead M&A technology due diligence and integration related to new products and services.



  • Undergraduate degree in related field and relevant experience or MBA
  • Experience managing a multi-product SaaS B2B portfolio, with associated revenue of $500M
  • 12+ years of experience in business operations or related experience
  • 3+ years of experience in a chief of staff-type role, advising an executive product or technology leader
  • G eneral management skills in strategy, operational excellence, collaboration and innovation
  • Strong leadership qualities and organizational skills as well as the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities, assignments, and roles
  • Independent judgment and mature decision-making skills to deal with programs that often have enterprise-wide scope and may have significant financial and compliance impacts
  • Solid understanding of project management techniques, methodologies, and best practices
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills, with a demonstrated ability to effectively communicate technical and business issues to support the strategic goals

USD $212,000.00 - USD $282,000.00

Placement within this range depends upon several factors, including the applicant's prior relevant job experience, skill set, and geographic location. In addition to base pay, BlackLine also offers short-term and long-term incentive programs, based on eligibility, along with a robust offering of benefit and wellness plans.
