The Role

The Data Curation team is responsible for building datasets that the neural networks will consume to help solve important Full-Self-Driving (FSD) problems. This includes creating a plan to collect thousands of examples of fleet data, building instructions & training materials for the collection team, auditing the data, working with AI Engineers to train our networks, and developing evaluations to confirm if the problem is resolved or not. This role has a considerable impact on Tesla's overall progress toward a Self-Driving future, as high-volume, high-quality data is the foundation of successful AI.

Responsibilities

  • Build large, clean, diverse and aligned datasets to improve various self-driving tasks
  • Design methods to collect data from engineering resources and the customer fleet
  • Create training materials to teach Data Collection teams how to procure specific data
  • Train up to hundreds of personnel on the methods/procedures that you designed
  • Develop auditing and filtering methods to verify data is high quality
  • Coordinate development and testing of evaluations to verify behavioral improvements to the task you are tackling
  • Maintain tight feedback loop with Data Collection, AI Engineering and Test teams to ensure new datasets actually improve Self-Driving
  • Write data queries to mine data from the fleet (Python, JSON-C) and analytics telemetry to measure performance & progress of improving various self-driving tasks
  • Conduct in-vehicle testing to support engineering development
  • Generate reports that communicate top issues, release blockers, progress and next steps for various projects

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or Math, or proof of exceptional skills in related field
  • Ability to thrive in a rapidly changing environment with high ambiguity; self-starter mentality
  • Familiarity with Python, Pandas, NumPy, SQL, Git, Grafana, & ElasticSearch
  • Understanding of machine learning and self-driving fundamentals
  • Excellent work ethic, communication, attention to detail and collaboration skills

    • Expected Compensation

      $96,000 - $312,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

      Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
