You will contribute to Motional’s driverless future by leading Motional’s systems engineering strategy for engaging with operations and operational safety in support of planned deployment milestones. This work includes development of Concept of Operations documents, Operational Scenarios for the integrated AV system, and working with operations to develop and test operational mitigations. In addition, you will be contributing to the strategy for scoping Motional’s driverless milestones, working as part of a cross-functional team with stakeholders from safety, operations, autonomy, and product.

  • Lead development of systems engineering portions of Motional’s Concept of Operations for planned driverless deployments
  • Lead development of operational scenarios for deployments, incorporating AV system behaviors, product functionality, and roles of operational personnel in a driverless deployment
  • Work with operations to develop standard operating procedures based on the operational scenarios
  • End-to-end ownership ensuring all relevant risks are traced to operational procedures and personnel training
  • Participate in weekly forums discussing driverless technical risk and how operational personnel may be able to partially mitigate this risk
  • Provide understanding of autonomy performance to operations team to design safe and well-scoped operational mitigations for driverless deployments
  • Communicate process and status for operational mitigations with key customers as part of customer approval of deployment phases

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or similar field with 2+ years of experience in systems engineering
  • Experience with technical writing (ideally ConOps documents or similar), strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience “human-in-the-loop” safety critical systems from similar industries
  • Experience working directly with operational personnel as an engineer, providing technical detail on system behavior used by an operations team (for SOP development, etc.)
  • Experience with validation and verification techniques, test analysis, or similar
  • Experienced with support tools and integration (JIRA, Confluence, G-suite, etc.)
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced and rapidly evolving environment

  • Master’s degree in engineering or similar field and/or 4+ years of experience in systems engineering
  • Skilled in a requirements management tools (Polarion, DOORS, Jama, or similar)
  • Robotics knowledge and relevant experience
  • Experience performing V&V of machine learning software

The Motional global headquarters are located at 100 Northern Avenue in Boston, MA. The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors including but not limited to specific skills, experience and expertise, role location, certifications, licenses, and business needs. The estimated compensation range listed in this job posting reflects base salary only. This role may include additional forms of compensation such as a bonus or company equity. Salary Range

$131,000$170,750 USD
