The Job:  

Stanley Black & Decker’s Global Tools and Outdoor business is currently seeking candidates for a Global Strategic Insights Director, DEWALT working as a remote employee (commutable to Towson, MD).

The Global Strategic Insights Director for DEWALT will be at the forefront of shaping the future of our business. This role is pivotal in driving impactful change by influencing our business strategy, our brand and product portfolio, and spearheading integrated marketing planning. With a relentless focus on understanding the end user, shopper, and marketplace dynamics, the Global Strategic Insights Director will lead the charge in providing insights for new product development, ensuring that DEWALT remains a leader in innovation and customer satisfaction.   You’ll get to:

Partner with Function Lead to build and develop the Strategic Insights group driving its vision and objectives. 

  • Provide regular and actionable input into the insights strategy and key priorities of the function 
  • Build advocacy for sustained organizational investment in end user and shopper understanding including a roadmap for foundational pro user insights needed to support the strategic horizon 
  • Stay current with emerging research and analytic methodologies, sharing knowledge to enhance the organization's capabilities 
  • Standardize research approaches to ensure consistent application of insights across the business 
  • Create strong partnerships with vendors and cross-functional leadership to drive collaborative success 

Lead and develop a workgroup of 3-6 Strategic Insights professionals 

  • Create direction, prioritization, and long-term plans for the workgroup 
  • Reinforce a work culture of mutual trust and collaboration 
  • Create and align work plans that ladder to the function and DEWALT business priorities 
  • Seek out and enable professional and functional development within the team 

Transform data into actionable insights, influencing the strategic decisions and behavior of senior and executive level leaders   

  • Seek out and acquire reliable, global market data to integrate with custom insights 
  • Identify and assess new business opportunities at the category, brand, retailer, country, and global level 
  • Synthesize user, shopper and market data to create compelling narratives that guide the strategic direction of the business 
  • Create immersive experiences that bring the end user to life for leadership and business teams from product development to regional activation 
  • Measure and evaluate in-market success, leveraging key learnings to optimize new product development process 

Optimize learning and global research opportunities to efficiently meet business needs 

  • Recommend and manage research budget for the DEWALT insights team 
  • Create and align priorities with senior leaders to implement strategic learning plans to address the most critical questions for the business  
  • Guide research development, execution, and deployment of insights across the workgroup by using expertise across a wide variety of research methods 
  • Identify and test innovative tools and techniques for more efficient and effective research, scaled globally where applicable 

Oversee research and data supplier relationships 

  • Vet agency and vendor partner capabilities for regional and global scale 
  • Select suppliers to partner with and share experiences openly with the consumer insights community 

The Person:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, MBA a plus 
  • 10+ years of professional experience in Consumer Insights and/or a combination of Brand Development, Marketing Strategy, Marketing, Product/Project Management, or at a research vendor 
  • Experience in managing and developing others.   
  • Expertise in a variety of qualitative and quantitative consumer research techniques and data analytics 
  • Proficiency in programming tools like Alchemer and analytics tools like Displayr preferred
  • Proficiency with syndicated data sources like Numerator, IRI or Nielsen preferred
  • Excellent communication skills 
  • Ability to plan, follow through and drive results through activation within an organization 
  • Ability to juggle and manage communication across multiple priorities and key stakeholder needs   
  • Experience in influencing senior and executive stakeholders; leading cross-functional teams toward strategic, and culturally relevant global solutions 
  • Creative problem solver 
  • Ability to think and act strategically   
  • Ability to “connect the dots” and drive toward bigger picture insights 
  • Ability to synthesize a large amount of data and craft a clear, concise "story" to sell business solutions 
  • Ability to show complex information in a simple, visual and graphical way that drives understanding
