Upwork’s Platform Infrastructure Engineering team is at the heart of our scalability, reliability, and developer experience. We are seeking a Senior Technical Product Manager (Cloud Platform & Services) to drive platform infrastructure as a product, delivering value across engineering and business teams. This role combines strategic vision with technical execution. It offers the chance to modernize infrastructure, support DORA metrics, and prepare our platform for the demands of scalability, reliability, and AI/ML workloads.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with engineering, security, and business teams to gather and prioritize platform and infrastructure requirements.
  • Lead the development and implementation of systems to generate and improve DORA metrics (Deployment Frequency, Lead Time for Changes, Time to Restore Service, and Change Failure Rate) for software delivery performance.
  • Define and maintain a roadmap for platform initiatives, emphasizing scalability, efficiency, and developer experience.
  • Oversee platform modernization projects, including re-architecting legacy systems, enhancing developer tooling, and enabling self-service infrastructure capabilities.
  • Drive the adoption of observability and logging frameworks to deliver actionable insights into infrastructure performance.
  • Partner with engineering teams to standardize Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment workflows.
  • Support AI/ML teams by ensuring the platform meets the needs of advanced workloads, including model deployment and monitoring.
  • Define and track KPIs for platform performance, developer velocity, and operational reliability, ensuring alignment with DORA metrics.
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders across engineering and business teams to promote a culture of shared ownership and continuous improvement.

What it takes to catch our eye:

  • Deep knowledge of DORA metrics and how to build systems to measure and improve software delivery performance.
  • Experience with platform engineering, cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP), and distributed systems.
  • Hands-on experience with IaC tools like Terraform and observability frameworks like ELK, Prometheus, or similar technologies.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipeline design and automation tools like GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or ArgoCD.
  • Proven success leading large-scale infrastructure initiatives, including modernizing systems and implementing DevOps best practices.
  • Ability to translate high-level goals into actionable technical roadmaps.
  • Expertise in using metrics to drive decisions, with a track record of implementing systems that provide actionable insights.
  • Ability to define and monitor KPIs for platform performance and operational excellence.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven collaboration skills and a history of building consensus across diverse teams.
