Join our newly formed HW Solutions FW team, an elite group dedicated to rapid prototyping and revolutionary product development. We're not just iterating; we're inventing the next generation of vehicle diagnostics, safety, and connectivity solutions.

This is a remote position open open to candidates residing in the US except the San Francisco Bay Metro Area, NYC Metro Area, and Washington, D.C. Metro Area.

Your Mission:

  • Rapidly prototype and evaluate groundbreaking technologies in vehicle diagnostics, OBD-II, CAN bus systems, ECUs, and ADAS, leveraging both Linux and RTOS-based embedded systems.
  • Forge strategic partnerships with external technology and SoC vendors, driving innovation and aligning their roadmaps with Samsara's vision.
  • Translate complex product requirements into elegant and scalable firmware solutions.
  • Champion security best practices, ensuring robust and secure solutions across all stages of development.
  • Navigate and apply regulatory compliance requirements relevant to automotive and IoT devices.
  • Clearly demonstrate your work and influence product direction.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8+ years of professional experience developing firmware/software solutions for vehicle diagnostics, OBD-II, CAN bus systems, and ECUs on embedded systems.
  • Strong coding skills, with a proven track record of developing and debugging complex embedded systems.
  • A portfolio of work demonstrating experience with prototyping, new product development, and influencing product roadmaps.
  • Hands-on expertise with embedded Linux and RTOS systems relevant to vehicle technologies.
  • Proficiency in low-level C/C++, Linux kernel development, debugging, and CI/CD workflows.
  • Experience with hardware-firmware integration and automotive communication protocols.
  • Knowledge of vehicle diagnostic protocols (UDS, J1939) and automotive cybersecurity practices.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

An Ideal Candidate Also Has:

  • Experience with V2X, sensor integration, perception systems, and ADAS.
  • Experience bringing vehicle diagnostics or safety systems from inception to production.
  • In-depth experience with developer boards, prototyping, and KPI evaluation.
  • Familiarity with automotive industry standards (ISO 26262, ISO/SAE 21434).
  • Proficiency with automotive-grade SoCs, MCUs, and experience working with external vendors.
  • Experience with cloud connectivity and IoT platforms for vehicle data.

Samsara’s Compensation Philosophy: Samsara’s compensation program is designed to deliver Total Direct Compensation (based on role, level, and geography) that is at or above market. We do this through our base salary + bonus/variable + restricted stock unit awards (RSUs) for eligible roles.  For eligible roles, a new hire RSU award may be awarded at the time of hire, and additional RSU refresh grants may be awarded annually. 

We pay for performance, and top performers in eligible roles may receive above-market equity refresh awards which allow employees to achieve higher market positioning.

The range of annual base salary for full-time employees for this position is below. Please note that base pay offered may vary depending on factors including your city of residence, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

$150,237.50$227,250 USD
