Senior Engineer – Telematics

Position Summary  
GEICO is seeking an experienced Senior Engineer with a passion for building high-performance, low maintenance, zero-downtime platforms, and applications in our Telematics organization. Telematics is at the front of insurance innovation and our growing team supports high quality implementations for these cutting-edge products.  You will help drive our insurance business transformation as we transition from a traditional IT model to a tech organization with engineering excellence as its mission, while co-creating the culture of psychological safety and continuous improvement.

Position Description 
Our Senior Engineer is a key member of the engineering staff working on Mobile solutions ensuring that we provide a friction-less experience to our customers. Our team thrives and succeeds in delivering high quality technology products and services in a hyper-growth environment where priorities shift quickly. The ideal candidate has broad and deep technical knowledge, typically ranging from front-end UIs through back-end systems and all points in between. 
 
Position Responsibilities 
As a Senior Engineer, you will: 
•    Build product definition and leverage your technical skills to drive towards the right solution 
•    Engage in cross-functional collaboration throughout the entire software lifecycle 
•    Lead in design sessions and code reviews with peers to elevate the quality of engineering across the organization 
•    Define, create, and support reusable application components/patterns from a business and technology perspective 
•    Utilize programming languages like Kotlin/Java
•    Utilizes developer tooling across the software development life cycle (task management, source code, building, deployment, operations, real-time communication) to perform advanced-level Mobile/Web/UI design, implementation, and maintenance activities under minimal direction 
•    Proactively identify application issues and propose solutions
•    Mentor other engineers  
•    Consistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teams 
•    Work independently yet function as an integral part of a team

 
Qualifications 
•    Fluency and specialization with at least two modern languages such as Kotlin, Java including object-oriented design 
•    Experience with Telematics a plus
•    Experience with version control concepts (branching, merging, conflict resolution)
•    Experience writing unit tests that are good, reliable, and maintainable 
•    Proven understanding of micro-services architecture and extensible REST APIs 
•    Experience in existing Operational Portals such as Azure Portal 
•    Experience with application monitoring tools and performance assessments 
•    Knowledge of security protocols and products: Understanding of Active Directory, Windows Authentication, SAML, OAuth 
•    In-depth knowledge of CS data structures and algorithms 
•    Experience with CI/CD & E2E testing

•    Experience in Mobile Test automation tools a big plus
•    Experience building the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and current systems 
•    Strong problem-solving ability
•    Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment

Experience  
•    4+ years of professional software development experience with Kotlin/Java and Android App Development
•    3+ years of experience with architecture and design 
•    3+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service 
•    2+ years of experience in open-source frameworks 
 
Education 
•    Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience  


 

Annual Salary

$80,000.00 - $215,000.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
