About Bretton AI

Bretton AI is the leading AI agent platform for financial services. Companies like Robinhood, Mercury and Gusto trust us to automate mission critical work, starting with anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism investigations.

We’ve raised over $95M from Greylock, Y Combinator, Thomson Reuters Ventures and other top tier investors. We’re based in downtown San Francisco and our team comes from world-class organizations like SpaceX, Google, Netflix, Stripe, Plaid and more.

The Role

We’re hiring Product Engineers who excel at turning complex customer problems into elegant technical solutions. You’ll own substantial features from conception to production, working directly with customers to understand their needs, designing scalable architectures, and shipping code that measurably improves compliance operations.

This role combines deep technical work with high customer impact. You’ll build systems that process thousands of cases, save compliance teams significant time, and directly contribute to company revenue.

What You’ll Build
  • Develop intuitive interfaces for case management, reporting, and analytics.

  • Build document analysis and verification systems.

  • Build agentic workflows that coordinate AI tools and data services to perform research, enrichment, and verification, while keeping humans in the loop for review.

  • Create tools that help customers configure and customize their compliance workflows.

What We’re Looking For

Must-Haves:
  • 4+ years (Engineer) / 6+ years (Sr. Engineer) / 8+ years (Staff Engineer) of experience building production software.

  • Strong full-stack capabilities, including backend services, APIs, databases, and (nice-to-have) frontend development.

  • A track record of shipping customer-facing products where reliability is critical.

  • An end-to-end ownership mindset, from requirements gathering through deployment and iteration.

  • Clear communication skills—you can explain technical decisions to diverse audiences.

  • Product thinking—you understand why you’re building something, not just how.

Valued Experience:
  • Building workflow engines, orchestration systems, or process automation tools.

  • Working in regulated industries where compliance, auditability, and data integrity are critical.

  • Integrating AI/LLM capabilities into production applications.

  • Creating configuration systems, admin tools, or workflow builders for non-technical users.

  • Designing systems for multi-tenancy, versioning, or complex authorization models.

  • A strong foundation in data modeling and distributed systems.

Technical Skills:

We work with a mix of TypeScript, Python, Node.js, React, cloud infrastructure, and workflow orchestration frameworks. You don’t need prior experience with our exact stack, but you should be comfortable learning new technologies quickly and applying them in production.

Why You’ll Love Working Here
  • Meaningful Work: Solve hard problems that help financial institutions fight fraud and manage risk.

  • Technical Complexity: Build AI agents, workflow engines, data pipelines, and sophisticated UIs.

  • Customer Connection: Work directly with users, see your impact, and iterate based on real feedback.

  • True Ownership: Ship features that matter, influence product direction, and own outcomes.

  • High Growth: Join during a phase where your contributions will shape the company’s future.

Compensation & Benefits
  • $168k - $213k base salary + meaningful equity

  • Comprehensive healthcare, 401k matching, commuter benefits

  • 15 days PTO + holidays, unlimited sick days

  • Flexible leave options

  • Working late? We cover DoorDash and Uber home

Join us in building AI that protects the global financial system from financial crimes that fund terrorism and human trafficking.
