Company Overview

We are on a mission to ensure that the financial system is routing money to the best ideas while helping people build and protect their long-term financial health. Our platform empowers financial advisors to learn about, build personalized strategies around, and invest in (previously inaccessible) private investments to help them grow their businesses and improve the outcomes of their clients.

The market for private investments is expected to grow by $2 trillion in the next decade, but remains largely inaccessible to the majority of non-institutional investors. Our platform provides exclusive educational content, personalized guidance, bespoke investment options, and a streamlined investment process to help make these investments more accessible than ever before.

The Role

Software Engineers at Opto are tasked with the challenge of turning complex business problems into elegant and pragmatic engineering solutions. We are context-driven, customer-centric builders of tools and systems. We are end-to-end owners of engineering problems and solutions who constantly challenge one another to evolve as builders and collaborators. Oh, and we have fun along the way, because otherwise, what's the point?

Check out our blog to learn more about our tech culture here.

Our tech stack consists of a series of React-based Next.js Typescript applications hosted in Vercel.  Behind that a collection of Aurora-backed Python REST API services are hosted as containerized applications in AWS.  We make use of AWS Lambda for asynchronous tasks and we rely on Snowflake for data ingestion and warehousing.  Our service deployments are completely automated and execute multiple times daily.  Our tech stack continues to evolve, driven by our shared principles of optimizing for modularity, scalability, and team-level service ownership.

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Software Engineer to advance and harden our AI capabilities. In this role, you will develop and deploy AI-driven solutions that enhance our investment due diligence and decision-making processes. You will work closely with data specialists, financial analysts, and software engineers to integrate AI technologies into our platform, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize AI models and algorithms to optimize investment due diligence and decision-making processes
  • Collaborate with data & financial analysts to translate complex financial data and research into robust AI applications
  • Integrate AI solutions into our investment platform, ensuring seamless interaction with existing systems and data pipelines
  • Use latest techniques in prompt engineering, RAG, and fine-tuning to ensure performance performance, scalability, and reliability
  • Conduct rigorous testing and validation of AI models and pipelines to ensure accuracy and robustness
  • Monitor and maintain AI systems, addressing any issues or improvements as needed
  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in AI and machine learning technologies and apply them to solve complex financial problems
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions
  • Participate in code reviews, contribute to team knowledge, and mentor junior engineers as needed

Expectations

  • Be accountable for the delivery of high quality software projects in coordination with teammates and stakeholders on mutually agreed upon timelines
  • Seek context and rapidly iterate on solutions to eliminate ambiguity and drive projects forward
  • Participate actively in all phases of product development across specification, implementation, QA testing, deployment, and operations
  • Foster a culture of collaboration by actively engaging in discussions, documentation, and code review
  • Participate actively in engineering recruiting (interviewing, problem specification, role ownership, etc)
  • Raise your hand when you need help - don’t hesitate to reach out to stakeholders (product, teammates, managers, etc) to unblock your progress

Qualifications

  • 4-year technical degree (or equivalent work experience)
  • 2-4+ years software development experience with a focus on generative AI, including use of RAG, fine tuning, and prompt engineering
  • Familiarity with AI application architectures
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++
  • Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design principles
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Exposure to data science and data engineering, particularly with ingestion pipelines and data quality
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Familiarity with financial markets and investment strategies is a plus
