About the team and the role: eBay, Inc. seeks Software Engineer 2 in San Jose, CA
What you will accomplish: Build robust and scalable software, help improve our code services and system architecture, participate in brainstorming sessions, and work with the product and design teams to understand end-user requirements, formulate use cases, and deliver results. Estimate engineering efforts, prioritize projects, plan implementations, and triage production issues. Use monitoring tools to detect issues, impact and determine the roadmap on the product. Enhance, develop, and maintain multi-threaded backend web applications using the Java programming language to support C2C eBay sellers in listing their items on the eBay platform, ensuring optimal performance and scalability. Address and triage production issues reported by C2C eBay sellers to ensure a high-quality user experience. Build and maintain a configurable system to activate features at run time. Collaborate with project managers and UI partners to understand requirements and build products that enhance the selling experience. Utilize Java 8 to build, develop, and maintain Java applications for eBay selling tools, including both legacy and new-generation systems. Implement Unit tests using JUnit, Mockito to ensure the quality of the codebases and support the successful rollout of new features to users. Conduct code reviews to provide feedback and maintain the health, readability, and reusability of the teams Java codebase. Participate in all phases of the end-to-end implementation project, including requirements gathering, analysis and design, development, testing, and debugging. Engage in an Agile environment for task management and planning to ensure adherence to project timelines. Partial telecommuting may be permitted from within a commutable distance.
What you will bring:
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering or a closely related field plus six months of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
Special Skill Requirements:
1) Backend Development: Proficiency in developing backend web applications
2) Java Syntax Fundamentals: Strong familiarity with Java syntax, including operators, data types, and basic constructs. Skilled in Java 8 features, including lambdas, functional interfaces, Optionals, and the Stream API
3) Object-Oriented Programming (OOP): Solid understanding of OOP principles such as inheritance, encapsulation, polymorphism, and abstraction
4) Multithreading and Concurrency: Knowledgeable in concepts like threads, synchronization, and concurrency for managing parallel tasks effectively
5) Spring and Spring Boot: Proficient in using Spring and Spring Boot, with a focus on dependency injection, Spring MVC, and scalable application development
6) Maven: Competent with Maven as a build tool for dependency management, project building, and packaging
7) Testing Frameworks (JUnit and Mockito): Experienced in unit testing and mock testing with JUnit and Mockito
8) RESTful APIs: Skilled in developing and consuming REST APIs, with a clear understanding of HTTP methods, status codes, and JSON
9) Security in Backend Development: Knowledgeable in authentication, authorization, and secure coding practices for secure backend applications
10) Microservices Architecture: Experienced in working within microservices architecture, building and managing applications composed of small, independent services
11) Version Control with Git and GitHub: Experienced with Git and GitHub, including branching, merging, giving code reviews and managing code repositories
12) Effective Communication: Strong ability to communicate within teams and clearly understand requirements
13) NoSQL Databases: Familiarity with NoSQL and key-value databases
14) System Monitoring: Using monitoring tools to detect issues, impact and determine the roadmap on the product
15) Configuration System: Build and maintain a configurable system to activate features at run time
Salary: $157,000.00-205,700.00 per annum. 40 hours per week; M-F, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
