Who We Are

Nuro exists to better everyday life through robotics. Founded in 2016, Nuro has spent eight years developing autonomous driving (AD) technology and commercializing AD applications. The Nuro Driver™ is our world-class autonomous driving system that combines AD hardware with our generalized AI-first self-driving software. Built to learn and improve through data, the Nuro Driver™ is one of the few driverless autonomous technologies on public roads today.

Nuro has raised over $2B in capital from Fidelity, Bailie Gifford, T. Rowe Price, Google, and other leading investors. We’ve partnered with some of the world’s most respected brands including Uber, FedEx, Domino’s, Walmart, Kroger, and 7-Eleven.

About the Role

In this role you will contribute to the development of the Nuro Driver by collaborating with cross functional teams on vehicle motion control. You will develop test case specifications for safety and performance requirements and coordinate with other teams for implementation and execution of tests. You will provide guidance on implementation and resolve issues during integration.

About the Work

  • Work with Autonomy systems, Controls and Embedded SW for setting system level requirements for vehicle motion control and coordinate with Vehicle Test teams for plan and execution of validation activities.
  • Work with planner and motion control teams to design the planner-motion controller interface. Develop methods for evaluating and characterizing the limits used in trajectory generation and motion tracking.
  • Recommend trajectory constraints of various virtual drivers for current and future Operational Design Domains on different vehicle platforms.
  • Recommend and quantify coverage of test suites for validation of Motion Control system, including ensuring the realism and relevance of proposed tests across simulation, HIL, onroad, and closed course.
  • Work with Controls, Embedded SW, VE and other external teams on a daily basis to provide guidance on technical implementation. Collaborate with engineering teams to perform root cause analysis and resolve issues that arise from integration and testing.
  • Lead the efforts on safety work products pertaining to motion control and fault management systems with cross functional teams and support other functional safety analyses as needed (FTA, FMEA, etc.).
  • Contribute to the overall safety case of the final product, and support safety analysis for improving the safety architecture.

About You

  • Deep understanding of how vehicle systems work and ability to leverage this knowledge to plan for verification and validation.
  • 3+ years of experience working on vehicle control system or embedded software.
  • Experience testing in HIL environments or on road testing.
  • Familiarity with automotive functional safety (ISO 26262) including requirements generation.
  • Ability to read code in C++ and write code in Python.
  • Strong communication skills - both verbal and written.

Bonus Points

  • AV or ADAS background.
  • Hands on experience working on ISO 26262.
  • Familiarity with other safety standards such as STPA, ISO-21448, ISO 8800, etc.
  • 3+ years of experience designing subsystems of a vehicle like drive, power, etc.
