About the Role

The Senior Technical Accountant will be responsible for various accounting matters including revenue, internal-use software, stock-based compensation, and other technical accounting areas as needs arise.  Additionally, this role will be responsible for drafting the Company’s financial statements and will have a large role in supporting the financial statement audit process.  

To succeed in this role, the candidate should have a strong accounting foundation, including 2+ years of public accounting.  The candidate should have strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, especially ASC606, and should be comfortable working directly with the GTM organization to review potential revenue recognition issues within customer contracts. 

We expect the candidate to have strong analytical and communication skills, and to be able to work independently as well as cooperatively within the team and cross-functionally. To be successful, the candidate must have the ability to adapt quickly and operate effectively in a rapidly growing environment.  

This role will report to the Director of Accounting, however there will be numerous tasks where they will directly assist the VP/Controller (as a “dotted line” report).

Responsibilities 

  • Ensure revenue recognition is in accordance with company policy and U.S. GAAP ASC606

  • Review revenue allocations and set up revenue recognition plans based on customer
    contracts and company revenue policy

  • Perform revenue analysis and prepare revenue recognition journal entries

  • Reconcile revenue, deferred revenue, and various other GL accounts on monthly basis

  • Stock-based compensation calculations and stock administration (Carta preferred)

  • Accounting for internal-use software capitalization/amortization

  • Preparation of technical accounting policies and technical accounting memos as needed

  • Prepare reports and analysis to support audit, tax return and various compliance
    requirements

  • Participate in the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process, which includes preparation and review of journal entries, balance sheet, and income statement reconciliations and analysis.

  • Assist with the balance sheet and income statement flux analysis

  • Continually review accounting processes for improvements and participate in various system and reporting enhancement projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, active CPA license a plus

  • 5+ years of relevant accounting experience, some Big 4 experience strongly preferred

  • Must have software/SaaS experience, particularly around SaaS rev rec under ASC606

  • Experience working with NetSuite, Salesforce, Carta, Microsoft Office/Google Suite

  • Excellent communication, analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to productively work in a fast-paced environment independently, or within a team

  • Bay Area preferred, coming in 1 to 2 days per week in Mountain View

Our Compensation and Benefits

At Menlo Security, Base Salary is one part of our competitive total compensation and benefits package and is determined using a salary range. The base salary range for this role is $ 87,000 - $ 153,000.

In accordance with NY, CO, CA, and WA law, the range provided is Menlo Security’s reasonable estimate of the base compensation for this role. The actual amount may be higher or lower, based on non-discriminatory factors such as experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and location. All employees may be eligible to become Menlo Security shareholders through eligibility for stock-based compensation grants, which are awarded to employees based on company and individual performance.
