The Company

Sofar is on a mission to connect the world’s oceans. We design, build, and deploy the largest privately owned network of marine weather sensors to power the world’s best marine weather forecasts. Our data helps our customers to increase efficiency and reduce emissions, delivering tools to governments and other stakeholders to understand impacts of climate change on extreme weather and ocean health. We live on Planet Ocean, and our goal is to create the ocean intelligence needed to ensure a sustainable future.

The Role

The Supply Chain Manager will be responsible for the management and execution of Sofar Oceans global supply chain, that includes developing a strategic supply chain base, procurement/planning and inventory management and fulfillment. You are collaborative, enjoy working with cross functional teams, thrive in a fast-paced creative-chaos environment, and can be strategic and tactical (not afraid to roll up your sleeves and get dirty). You like the challenge of a startup and are excited about taking on increased responsibility while scaling Sofar’s supply chain to infinity and beyond. This role reports directly to the Head of Supply Chain and Manufacturing and is an onsite role.

Impact you will own:

  • Manage supply chain functions (ERP/MRP, planning, procurement, inventory) and implement best practices for forecasting, sourcing, and vendor relations.
  • Provide leadership updates on procurement strategies, contract negotiations, supply risks, and KPIs.
  • Develop tools to track KPIs and support long-term supply chain performance, including Demand Plan/Fulfillment coordination.
  • Maintain supplier relationships, ensuring on-time deliveries and addressing material availability issues.
  • Optimize ERP/MRP data, manage inventory, Kanban, and cycle-count processes to meet internal production and cost goals.
  • Collaborate on NPI cost targets, while also supporting long term cost reductions/negotiations, payment terms and manufacturing supplier agreements.
  • Work with QA/Manufacturing/Engineering to drive continuous quality improvements with all suppliers

About You:

  • BS/advanced degree in supply chain, business, finance, or industrial engineering.
  • 8+ years in supply chain, procurement, planning, and manufacturing;
    • 4+ years in data analysis (Excel, VBA, SQL, Tableau).
  • Hands-on, tactical approach with strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Expert in ERP/MRP/PLM systems, BOM management, and procure-to-pay processes (Netsuite/Arena a plus).
  • Experience with low volume/high mix electro-mechanical products (PCBA, cables, CNC machining, injection molding) in NA/APAC.
  • Adaptable in fast-paced environments with ownership and accountability.
  • Strong relationship-building and stakeholder management skills.

Bonus points:

  • APIC/CPIM/CSCP/CLTD or equivalent certification
  • Direct experience with internal manufacturing
  • Experience/certification in Lean, Quality management, 6 Sigma

Salary Range:

  • $145,000 - $165,000
  • The range listed is what we reasonably expect to pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and may be modified in the future. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, experience, and equity package.

Sofar's Commitment to Climate Justice

We at Sofar Ocean acknowledge that careers in the marine sciences “... have traditionally been, and remain, non-diverse work environments”, thereby limiting the entry and prosperity of underrepresented groups in the space. (Johri et al., 2021) Many of these same groups are disproportionately affected by climate change, and are often excluded from decision making that directly address their interests and needs.

We are committed to addressing these climate injustices and highly encourage people who identify as women, LGBTQ+, Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) to apply.

Employee Conduct

It is the responsibility of every employee to contribute to a positive work environment through cooperative and professional interactions with co-workers, customers, and vendors.

Equal Employment Opportunity

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, protected veteran status, disability, or any other factors prohibited by law.
