Who we're looking for
Zendesk is looking for an engineer to join the Ticketing Product team, as a Senior Software Engineer! Our team focuses on the product concerns for Zendesk’s core product: The Support Ticket. We are a full-stack team responsible for making sure admins, agents and end-users alike are capable of communicating easily and safely through Zendesk’s ticketing process. Along with building new features for our customers, our job is to ensure our systems are reliable, scalable and fast.
What you’ll be doing

Make a complex ticketing system easy to understand and customizable to serve a multitude of customer needs.

Deliver enterprise grade software and experience some of the challenges presented working at a global scale, working on both existing and new product features.

Champion code ownership, standard methodologies, high quality code with corresponding test coverage, to ensure reliability and stability are kept front-of-mind.

Participate in and/or lead all phases of the software lifecycle including discovery, technical design, defining scope with Product Managers, prototyping, implementing, testing, rollout, and maintaining performance of critical features of Zendesk.
What you bring to the roleRequired experience:
-
Advanced skills in designing, building, and shipping features to production using modern front-end frameworks and methodologies such as React, Redux, Typescript, Apollo, and GraphQL.

Practical web development skills you are able to apply in a large, well-established code ecosystem.

Proven understanding of REST principles to help drive better, more usable API designs.

Familiarity designing and working on projects at enterprise level scale.
Preferred requirements:
-
Experience within server-side languages such as Ruby, Java, Python, or similar.

Experience with Ruby on Rails or similar frameworks
-
Proficiency in commonly used relational data stores such as MySQL, Aurora.

Solid understanding of one or more of the following data stores and systems is a plus: MySQL, ElasticSearch, Redis

Experience with event-driven, distributed architecture using Kafka, SNS/SQS.
Tech Stack

Our frontend is primarily written in React, with a bit of Ember.js

Our frontend data is handled via Apollo, and we work with REST APIs as well as a GraphQL API gateway written in Java

Our main backend server is a Ruby on Rails application
The US annualized base salary range for this position is $145,000.00-$217,000.00. This position may also be eligible for bonus, benefits, or related incentives. While this range reflects the minimum and maximum value for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations, the offer for the successful candidate for this position will be based on job related capabilities, applicable experience, and other factors such as work location. Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only (or OTE for commissions based roles), and do not include bonus, benefits, or related incentives.
Hybrid: In this role, our hybrid experience is designed at the team level to give you a rich onsite experience packed with connection, collaboration, learning, and celebration - while also giving you flexibility to work remotely for part of the week. This role must attend our local office for part of the week. The specific in-office schedule is to be determined by the hiring manager.
