Aurora hires talented people with diverse backgrounds who are ready to help build a transportation ecosystem that will make our roads safer, get crucial goods where they need to go, and make mobility more efficient and accessible for all. We’re searching for a Software Engineer to join Aurora’s Remote Assist team. The Remote Assist team is responsible for: 

  • Solving some of the most challenging problems in the autonomous driving space (such as people directing traffic and challenging on-road construction) for enabling the Aurora Driver to navigate from point A to point B safely and with minimal delays.
  • Supporting Aurora’s scaling by enabling a single operator to assist more and more autonomous vehicles and by solving new challenges arising from operational expansion to increasingly broad geographic routes.
  • Building the tools and workflows remote assist specialists use in their day-to-day jobs of assisting our autonomous vehicles and managing Aurora’s fleet of collectively learning and adapting autonomous vehicles.  

In this role, you will

  • Ideas for providing remote assist specialists with all the situational context needed for accurate and fast decision making.
  • Tools and workflows that enable remote assist specialists to guide Aurora’s autonomous vehicles through on-road challenges safely and effectively.  
  • Mission management and fleet intelligence software that enables efficient management of Aurora’s scaling fleet of autonomous vehicles.
  • Verification and Validation plans to ensure the systems you deliver are safe and effective when released to on-road operations. 
  • Creative solutions to highly cross functional problems by collaborating with stakeholders within the autonomy organization and beyond, including remote assist specialists themselves, Aurora’s product leadership, data science, UI/UX design, platform engineering, test engineering, and more.

Required Qualifications

  • 6+ years of industry software engineering experience with strong C++ coding fundamentals.
  • Robotics and/or autonomous vehicle experience
  • Interest in working on user facing tools and workflows

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience with leveraging ML / AI  
  • Previous work on with human robot interaction
  • Development of Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs)

The base salary range for this position is $139K - $223K per year.  Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future. The successful candidate will also be eligible for an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.
