Build the operating system for global trade
Flexport is building the first modern logistics platform to make global trade easier for everyone. About the team:
The Pricing Systems Team is a critical component of the Commerce Organization at Flexport. Our mission is to optimize pricing and cost management strategies through innovative systems, ensuring accurate pricing for all Flexport services while meticulously managing associated costs. Our team is responsible for developing and maintaining two primary systems. One system is a machine learning-based solution designed to optimize the final sale price for each shipment, leveraging historical data, market conditions, and other relevant factors to ensure competitive and profitable pricing. The other system is a sophisticated rule-based solution that manages how Flexport applies charges to each quote and shipment, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and fairness in our pricing structure.
By maximizing revenue and strategically managing charges, we directly contribute to Flexport's financial success and sustainable growth. The Pricing Team's efforts are integral to maintaining Flexport's competitive edge in the market, ensuring that we deliver value to our clients while achieving our business objectives.
***This position requires attendance in the San Francisco, CA office 3 days a week with flexibility to work remotely 2 days per week***
You will:
- Work closely with business partners and product managers to distill complex business problems into elegant technical solutions.
- Help the team build a technical vision and roadmap in collaboration with Product Managers (PM), Engineering Managers (EM), and leadership.
- Build highly available, secure, distributed systems in a microservice architecture.
- Tackle difficult and subtle system-level issues, emphasizing simplicity and long-lasting designs. As we extract services out of the monolith, we take pride in untangling legacy code and re-building with composability in mind.
- Onboard and mentor engineers. We believe in structured onboarding and mentoring processes to ensure a smooth transition into the team and then continued development on the team.
- Champion a culture of quality and reliability, using metrics and post-mortems to drive continuous improvement.
You should have: Basic qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of 5 years of professional software development experience
- Experience architecting and building complex, enterprise grade systems in a complex, multi-tiered, distributed environment
- A desire to develop your tooling repertoire. We are tech-agnostic regarding candidate background, but our platform is built with AWS, Kotlin, Java, Ruby, etc.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience as a technical lead for a group of engineers and a demonstrated ability to lead teams through complex, technical decision processes.
- The ability to convey technical ideas in common terms to business partners, product managers, designers and engineers alike.
- Ability and experience to deal with ambiguity and work in 0-1 product development phases.
- Significant role in the career development of others, actively mentoring and educating the larger software engineering community on trends, technologies, and best practices.
- Commitment to maintaining high-quality products by anticipating issues, obsessing over metrics, and applying key learnings from post-mortems to all our services.
- Geek out about shipping and logistics. (We do this often.)

The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range displayed, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and / or training.
The US base salary range for this position: (exclusive of bonus, equity and benefits.)
$183,273—$229,000 USD
