About The Role & Team
The Middleware team is a critical component of Amplitude's analytics platform, focused on enhancing our compute API and semantic layer that power our analysis tools. We strive to make the compute API more flexible, user-friendly, and performant, often balancing these goals to deliver the best experience for our customers. The team collaborates closely with various other teams and products such as Session Replay, Experiment, CDP, Query, and frontend teams.
As we accelerate our multi-product strategy and aim to win the marketer segment, we are tackling several challenges to support the company's product vision. This role will play a pivotal part in driving a wide variety of projects and defining the long-term vision of our compute API.
As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will:
- Drive performance and scalability improvements for our compute API and semantic layer from ideation to implementation.
- Enhance the flexibility and usability of our compute API to support diverse analysis types and support different personas.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support multi-product integration initiatives.
- Identify and contribute to the infrastructure roadmap for the Middleware team.
You'll be a great addition to the team if you have:
- Experience building and deploying services on AWS or similar cloud providers.
- Proficiency in at least one of the following: Python, Java, or Typescript.
- Experience with both relational and NoSQL databases.
- Background in building high-performance, scalable backend systems.
- Experience with API development and making services flexible and easy to use.
- Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to use monitoring tools to quickly diagnose and fix performance, correctness, and stability issues
- Familiarity with analytics platforms and understanding of user event data is a plus.

Based on legislation in California, the following details are for individuals who will work for Amplitude in San Francisco Bay Area of California. Salary range: $170,000 - $256,000 total target cash (inclusive of bonus or commission)
Based on legislation in California, the following details are for individuals who will work for Amplitude in California outside of the San Francisco Bay Area. California salary range: $154,000 - $231,000 total target cash (inclusive of bonus or commission)
