Join our team at Roblox as we pioneer the next generation of character animation systems. On the Avatar movement team, you will be responsible for developing powerful physically-based character animation systems that demonstrate Roblox’s Simulation first principles. This role is a great opportunity to be part of a high-impact, high-visibility project from the ground up.

You Will:

  • Develop Unsupervised Learning Models: Create and implement unsupervised machine learning models to improve avatar movement, demonstrating data to build and refine policies autonomously. Apply reinforcement learning to enhance avatar control.
  • Build and Train Learning Systems: Architect and train advanced models that guide our avatars how to move and react more naturally, incorporating physical simulation, control policies, and learning systems using frameworks like TensorFlow.
  • Enhance Animation Systems: Collaborate with a broader animation team to innovate and optimize our animation pipelines, ensuring seamless integration and performance of physics-based animation within the Roblox engine.
  • Implement and Optimize in C++ and Python: Apply C++ for high-performance implementation of core animation systems and Python for scripting, model training, and rapid prototyping.

You Have:

  • Expertise in Physically-Based Character Animation: A strong background in physics simulation, character animation and motion control, with experience in deploying these systems in a real-time environment.
  • Experience with Machine Learning: Hands-on experience building and training machine learning models (supervised and unsupervised), ideally using TensorFlow or similar frameworks, applied to animation and/or robotics.
  • Proficiency in C++ and Python: Solid programming skills in C++ for real-time systems and Python for machine learning tasks. You are open to demonstrating your expertise in the coding language of your choice during the interview process.
  • Innovative Approach: A passion for creating powerful animation technologies and the ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment on a new, high-impact product.

For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits.

Annual Salary Range

$189,110$233,840 USD

Roles that are based in our San Mateo, CA Headquarters are in-office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional in-office on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).

We are requiring employees to be in the office three days a week – with core days being Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. On Mondays and Fridays, employees may choose to work remotely, although the office will still be open.
