Senior Product Manager (Trade Execution)

The Sr PM for Trade Execution will be responsible for building multi-asset Trading systems for self directed client flow. This role will have broad exposure to functions across the business. This position will report to the Director of Trading Product Manager (Orders, Portfolios, Execution) and will have extensive cross-functional interaction.

What you’ll do all day: 

• Define the tools and features Apex needs to build. Apex’s edge is its technology products. And as a product manager, you’ll be responsible for defining what products Apex should be building and also determining their outcomes. 

• Become an expert: A great product manager must know their product inside and out. This can require anything from reading pages of financial regulations to attending industry conferences. And of course, you are expected to talk often with subject matter experts (SMEs) inside of Apex. Don’t apply if you don’t like learning! 

• Collaborate with your engineering team to drive projects to completion. At Apex, product managers are assigned to a specific engineering team. This fosters good communication and team rhythm. You will work daily with your team to plan projects, groom backlogs, and research emerging requirements. 

• Collaborate with the business and SMEs on technology strategy. You will meet regularly with subject matter experts, key customers, and senior-level decision makers to ensure everyone agrees to the same product vision.  An important part of the job is also to document and communicate that vision to ensure we have a written record of key decisions and outcomes.

 Responsibilities: 

Define, own and deliver the next generation of Apex Clearing’s Trading Technology stack and tools to support Apex Clearing execution capabilities and value proposition to clients and prospects.  

• Drive prioritization and requirements definition for strategic initiatives and product priorities to deliver key business outcomes.  

• Should have thorough understanding of Options, FICC, Mutual Fund and Equity asset class.  

• Actively cross-collaborate with Engineering team, Sales, and Compliance on building of Options 

• Should have knowledge of how ATS works to support 24x5 Trading.  

• Oversees multiple product management processes, establishes priorities, and coordinates with teams to create schedules throughout the product life cycle. 

• Build strong relationships with key internal stakeholders and clients 

• Collate detailed requirements and define User Stories in collaboration with internal and external customers. 

• Work with development team to deliver against these in an Agile context and to ratify proposed technical solutions, including testing new functionality 

• Prioritize requests to drive growth and maximize profitability 

• Work collaboratively with various internal and external teams to resolve dependencies..  

• Interact with clients to validate demand and verify the accuracy of the planned workflows 

• Promote adoption of the completed product and provide training tools/documentation to drive successful use 

• Understand and partner with trading tech vendor relationships. 

• Constantly collaborates with other departments to build trust and understanding.  

• Support Sales/Relationship Management in customer meetings and calls as a subject matter expert 

• Position requires 30%+ time for travel. (We’re a distributed company.) 

The skills you’ll need to succeed:    

• 5+ years of market expertise (ideally some in product management) with demonstrable knowledge of trading workflows, market structure and networking standards 

• Experience with trading and brokerage compliance regimes, including Market Connectivity, Risk Management and Regulatory Requirements such as Consolidated Audit Trail (CAT) reporting  

• Basic understanding of post trade processes including settlement operations and trade reporting. 

• Knowledge of Bulk Order API processing with support for multi-assets 

• Demonstrated success in leading product development teams through complex enterprise initiatives; SaaS / Cloud Architecture, API platform, Legacy app consolidation, etc.    
  B2B experience a plus. 

• Understanding of FIX protocol and general OMS workflows understanding of REST API development a plus 

• Familiarity with Agile practices, with a strong preference for incremental delivery.  

• You are organized and are comfortable overseeing multiple work streams, ensuring that your team can stay focused on enabling great experiences. 

• Strong ability to listen.  While being Customer-centric, you elicit non-obvious customer needs, and synthesize research to gain a deep understanding and narrow definition of a problem 

• Have the ability to multi-task, be proactive and demonstrate ownership /initiative 

• Excellent people and management skills to interact with staff, colleagues, cross functional teams and third parties 

• Experience presenting execution capabilities to heads of trading and senior leaders. 

• Possess excellent communication and writing skills.  

• Comfortable using collaboration tools such as Slack, JIRA, Confluence, etc.
