This role is highly tactical and technical, emphasizing scalable UI components, system efficiency, documentation, and adoption.

  • Scale and maintain our design system – Help evolve and expand Ink, ensuring its components, patterns, tokens, and documentation align with the needs of product teams.
  • Improve design-to-code collaboration – Work closely with frontend engineers to define and implement scalable UI components, ensuring Figma and code remain in sync.

  • Enforce accessibility best practices – Champion inclusive design
  • Optimize process and tooling – Streamline workflows between designers and developers, leveraging tools like Figma, Storybook, and GitHub to maintain consistency and efficiency.
  • Facilitate system adoption – Provide clear documentation, guidelines, and education to help designers and engineers effectively leverage Ink.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally – Partner with engineers, product managers, and designers to optimize design system usage and improve integration into product development.
  • Monitor and maintain system health – Continuously audit, refine, and enhance the design system based on real-world usage and feedback.

The Team You'll Work With

You’ll be joining the Ink Team—Carta’s centralized Design Systems group, composed of Designers, Engineers, and Design Technologists. We focus on building, maintaining, and scaling the tools, components, patterns, documentation, and guidelines that power Carta’s product design and frontend development. As part of the team, you'll play a key part in  helping optimize system quality and drive adoption, ensuring that product and engineering teams can efficiently build high-quality, cohesive experiences at scale while maintaining consistency and accessibility across products.

About You

You are a detail-oriented systems thinker passionate about the technical execution of design systems. You excel at component structure, accessibility best practices, and streamlining UI frameworks. With a strong balance of design precision and practicality, you’re skilled at collaborating with engineers to bring scalable, well-documented design solutions to life.

We’re Looking For:

  • 5+ years of product design experience, with at least 3+ years focused on design systems.
  • Deep expertise in UI/UX components and patterns, with a strong understanding of scalability, accessibility, and usability best practices.
  • Proficiency in Figma, with experience organizing component libraries, design tokens, and documentation.
  • Familiarity with frontend frameworks, including how design translates to code (Storybook, React, GitHub).
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills—ability to work closely with engineers and product teams to ensure seamless implementation.
  • A track record of maintaining, scaling, and optimizing enterprise design systems.
  • High attention to detail, structure, and design consistency across platforms.
  • Proficiency in accessibility standards and experience embedding them into design systems.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, balancing scalability with practicality.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills—ability to clearly define use cases, guidelines, and system constraints.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience working with tokens, themeable design systems, and multi-brand component scaling.
