We're looking for a Lead Marketing Communications Manager to lead integrated efforts across social media, blogging, and thought leadership—crafting compelling stories that resonate with platform engineers and developers. The ideal candidate has a strong background in technology and developer marketing, creating content that drives awareness and engagement in the market.

As a key member of the Marketing Communications team, you will help drive Apollo's narrative and brand presence while building a vibrant community of developer advocates. Reporting to the Senior Director of Global Communications, you’ll own our blog strategy, social media presence, and internal evangelism program. Your role combines strategic communications, technical understanding, and community building to amplify Apollo's voice in the developer ecosystem.

At Apollo GraphQL, we’re revolutionizing API management, empowering businesses to build, ship, and scale their APIs easily. Our mission is to make application development easier, better, and accessible to more people. We build open-source tools and commercial services used by thousands of developers in production.

What you'll do

  • Own and execute Apollo’s blog and social media strategy, managing the editorial calendar, content creation, and contributor network.
  • Develop and enforce editorial guidelines to ensure a consistent brand voice and clear content development processes.
  • Create and optimize technical content that highlights Apollo’s technology, customer success, and community achievements while engaging platform engineers and developers.
  • Identify and support internal subject matter experts, helping them build their presence as thought leaders through blogs, social media, and speaking engagements.
  • Lead a speaker development program, preparing Apollo team members for conference talks and industry events.
  • Foster cross-functional collaboration with engineering, product, and marketing teams to source compelling stories and technical insights.
  • Track and analyze blog and social engagement metrics, leveraging insights to optimize content and evangelism programs.
  • Monitor industry trends to identify strategic content opportunities and integrate thought leadership into the broader communication plan.

Who you are

  • You have 6+ years of experience in developer-focused content and communications, with additional relevant experience.
  • You understand the developer ecosystem and have experience creating content for technical audiences that engages, fosters, and grows the community.
  • You have a strong understanding of social media strategies and platforms, with a track record of growing professional audiences online.
  • You're an exceptional writer who can break down complex technical concepts into compelling stories.
  • You're a self-starter who thrives on building new programs and measuring their impact.
  • You're proficient in analytics tools to monitor, analyze, and optimize digital content performance.
  • You understand GraphQL and API concepts (or are eager to learn).
  • You're energized by the opportunity to build Apollo's voice in the market.

Nice to have

  • Experience working in a high-growth startup environment.
  • Experience working with developer relations (DevRel) teams to amplify technical storytelling.
  • Experience with open-source community engagement through blog posts, forums, or social media.
