About The Role
The Data Platforms Team, a segment under the Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology (DEET) organization is looking for a Senior Software Engineering Manager to join our Instrumentation and Product Data Team. Instrumentation and Product Data is crucial to powering the consumer facing systems for all the brands and digital experiences owned and operated by the DEET Portfolio. Instrumentation and Product Data comprises data that covers all aspects of the product life cycle, from conversion and onboarding funnels, to content merchandising performance data marts, as well as data which measures the quality of experience of our portfolio.
Our Instrumentation and Product Data team is seeking a highly motivated Senior Software Engineering Manager with a strong technical background in data processing who is passionate about helping application ecosystems scale. Our tech stack includes AWS, Databricks, Snowflake, Airflow, Spark, and languages include Scala, Python, SQL, and Java
What You'll Do

  • Collaborate with product teams, data analysts and data scientists to align and build data-forward products that drive business value across the enterprise.
  • Proactively drive the vision aligning instrumentation and data engineering best practices across the instrumentation domain.
  • Derive actionable recommendations in an easy to digest manner and communicate key insights across all levels of the organization
  • Build and lead a high-caliber team of engineers and leaders and provide technical guidance and career development.
  • Define and manage SLA and data quality for all data sets and processes running in production.
  • Orchestrate and drive the design, implementation, and launch of new data models, data pipelines, and data products in production.
  • Define the processes needed to achieve operational excellence in all areas, including project management, observability, and system reliability.
  • Assist in the preparation of presentations and formal analysis in support of executive decision making and strategy development.


Basic Qualifications

  • At least 10 years of software and data engineering experience
  • 5+ years' experience architecting, designing, developing and implementing cloud solutions on AWS platforms
  • Experience leading the development of a large, complex data-centric project with multiple stakeholders
  • Ability to effectively partner across all levels and manage multiple projects with high standards
  • Intellectually curious, analytically rigorous, hard-working, good work ethic and an on-point business intuition


Required Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering or comparable field of study, or equivalent work experience.
  • Master's Degree a plus


The hiring range for this position in San Francisco, California is $197,900 to $265,400 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
