Credit Karma is looking for a results-oriented and strategically minded Senior Manager of Data Science who is passionate about applying machine learning to solve financial problems for our millions of members, can effectively manage and scale data scientists to drive AI-powered recommendations that help our members to achieve their financial goals, while building the data foundations and partnering in improving our data stack and ML lifecycle. Data Science plays a ubiquitous role in Credit Karma’s product, serving as the foundation for core machine learning capabilities that drive monetization, personalization, and a value-centric experience for our members. As such, this role is highly cross-functional and requires tight partnerships with a wide range of functions - including engineering, product, marketing, finance and analytics. 

We are looking for a Senior Manager, Data Science lead a team of scientists and drive innovation in the development and application of data science techniques powering most relevant financial products and actionable financial recommendations in Credit Karma, while setting the vision and strategy to create the thinking, systems, and processes to advance our business through Data Foundation, Data Science, and ML lifecycle. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of building and scaling AI-powered recommendation platform strategies. They will possess exceptional leadership skills, capable of effectively collaborating with senior executives and navigating competing priorities in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment with poise and agility.

What you’ll do:

  • Inspire, lead, and grow a team of data scientists to achieve our longer term vision
  • Actively influence the design of the strategy and shaping of the roadmap. Generate and use team insights to set and prioritize longer term goals
  • Shape the short and long-term technical vision and strategy for current and new ML capabilities to drive revenue, member engagement and member value at scale
  • Partner with Engineering, Product, Marketing and cross-functional teams to inform, influence, support, and execute strategy and the roadmap for the existing and emerging AI space at Credit Karma
  • Develop understanding of large scale AI systems, their operational maturity, as well as broader industry challenges, to identify present and future risks and opportunities
  • Exhibit intellectual curiosity, intrinsic drive, decisiveness, and resilience with ambiguity and complexity

Minimum Basic Requirement:

  • MS / PhD in a quantitative discipline (e.g., engineering, machine learning, data science, operations research, economics) with 8+ years experience 
  • 4+ years of management experience. Experience managing managers is a bonus.
  • Ability to communicate & discuss low-level technical topics as well as high-level strategies
  • Experience with working cross-functionally and with multiple stakeholders, including Engineering, Product, Marketing, Analytics and Finance at mid- or large-scale companies
  • Strong communication skills
  • Results-oriented with a strong member and business focus
  • Ability to provide structure and tackle ambiguous and undefined problems

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience with driving monetization, member engagement, longer term member value through AI
  • Experience working on large scale AI systems with applications across machine learning and generative AI, AI infrastructure, data foundation, and self-serve analytics through DS methods
  • Ability to balance fast paced environments at a large scale company
  • Ads business and product experience

Pay Transparency Notice: Credit Karma’s mission of championing financial progress for all starts from within. That’s why we implemented role-based compensation, which ensures people who are in the same role receive the same pay with variations for geographic location only. It’s all part of a more comprehensive DEI strategy that helps level the playing field. The base salary for this role is $367,500, plus equity and benefits.
