Chewy is looking for a Senior Director, Software Engineering Search and AI to lead the Recommendation & Personalization Engine team in Seattle, WA. The team develops brand-new user understanding models and systems to gain deep insights into the changing interests, intents, and tastes of our 17m+ active customer base.
Set technical vision, build customer recommendation models, and collaborate with multi-functional partners.
As a technology leader, you will own both the feature and platform engineering teams to deliver innovative and useful customer experiences. This is a high-profile position that will have exposure across the entire business, influencing the vision and implementation of architecture, design and features for these platforms.
The ability to craft Chewy's long-term strategies and translate them into actionable, motivating, and measurable goals. Finally, you will be involved in high-impact decisions and initiatives undertaken by the company, giving you a front row seat to craft Chewy's growth.
To succeed in this role, the leader must have a history of changing, innovating, and leading in technology. You should deeply understand the product goals and collaborate effectively across functions.
What You'll Do:

  • Apply vision, strategy, and thought leadership to impact Chewy, at scale
  • Run and lead a team of expert Development Managers and Engineers
  • Collaborate with the Engineering Leadership team to implement standard methodologies in software development, testing, and production operations.
  • Partner with our recruiting team to continue to establish your team and mentor the growth of the current talented team
  • Develop methods to improve personalization and targeting with pet parents, crafting innovative tools to boost dedication and engagement.
  • Establish strong working relationships at all interpersonal levels and across functional teams
  • Identify and lead priorities within the context of overall Chewy objectives
  • Partner with C-Suite and VP leaders
  • Engage and empathize with our customers to understand their problems and develop innovative product solutions they didn't even know they wanted
  • Define key performance indicators and implement measurement, analytics, and reporting methods to gauge success and identify areas of improvement.
  • Partner with colleagues across the org (Product Management, PMO, Product Development, Marketing, Customer Care and other critical areas of our business) to ensure effective execution of our Recommendation & Personalization strategies across all customer engagement channels

What You'll Need:

  • Strong Search recommendation domain experience and ML
  • History of implementing and leading significant software development projects
  • 10+ years of experience in Software Development as a software engineer
  • 8+ years of experience in Engineering Management
  • Able to work and to adapt to changing circumstances while applying analytical and technical skills to craft corporate initiatives
  • Track record in attracting, developing, and motivating the talent needed for current and future business needs. Demonstration of maintaining high performance expectations and leading teams to achieve results in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in presenting clearly and optimally (verbally and in writing) to senior leadership audiences internally and externally (board members - a strong plus). Strong presentation skills and ability to communicate sophisticated financial concepts in a simple way and to tailor key messages and presentation style to multiple audiences
  • Must possess a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or related field
  • Position will require travel between Seattle and Boston at least twice per calendar year
  • Proven record in attracting, developing, and motivating the talent needed for current and future
    business needs.

The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate's relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k and a new hire and annual equity grant.

Salaried-exempt team members have unlimited PTO, subject to manager approval. Team members will receive six paid holidays per year. Team members may be eligible for paid sick and family leave in compliance with applicable state and local regulations.
Pay Range
$217,000-$368,000 USD
