As a Senior Director, Product Design - Monetization reporting to the Chief Design Officer of our Company, you’ll play a critical role in leading design, strategy, vision, and design teams across the Economy group and Partnership organization, including ads, in-experience monetization, payments, marketplace, partnership, and gift cards. You’ll connect our horizontal user experience strategy, innovation, features, and infrastructure across Roblox product vertical groups, responsible for ensuring that our end-to-end design processes for our consumer-facing application is consistent and cohesive. This leader will work collaboratively with our partners such as Product and Engineering leaders to define our product lifecycles. This role requires a strategic problem solver with strong leadership, exceptional communication abilities, acute business insight, high design craft, deep understanding in the design system, and a passion for innovative problem-solving.


For This Role You Are:

A company-level design leader who brings a high craft, strategic rigors, systems-first approach, an ability to work creatively across subject areas with cross-functional partners and diverse teams across design subject areas, including product design, content design, UX research, 3D art, creative, and tool design.

You will:

  • Manage resources across design teams and multi-disciplinary design efforts to ensure flawless execution.
  • Partner with Group leaders both Product Management and Engineering to define strategy and vision.
  • Make an impact that sparks imagination and ignite endless possibilities for our users around the world at a time of incredible growth for our business.
  • Define the design strategy, future vision, goals, success metrics, roadmap, and resource allocation for Monetization.
  • Promote a device-agnostic, systematic approach to crafting our user experiences across Roblox.
  • Be an effective communicator, presenting design and results at key C-suite meetings and proactively working through blockers or issues to ensure we are progressing against our goals and objectives.
  • Understand, leverage and evolve our design system to deliver a consistent and high quality app experience; and apply existing experience and interaction components and patterns, also developing new ones based on user needs.
  • Eagerly seek and give help and transparency tops your list of values as a manager of managers.
  • Identify and resolve operational bottlenecks to improve design efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Facilitate and foster strong collaboration among Design, Product, and Engineering teams, not just ensuring smooth handoffs and effective communication throughout the product development process, but also achieving design integration with product strategy and technical feasibility.
  • Act as a thought partner with the Chief Design Officer to create shared context, drive clarity, and prioritize.
  • Help develop and implement design roadmaps, expansion plans, and growth opportunities to ensure teams are delivering against established objectives and key results.
  • Develop and oversee organizational contribution projects, including People, Culture, and Craft to enhance team skills and promote design thinking across the organization.

You Have:

  • Experienced with 12+ years of professional work experience in a design leadership and/or management capacity with a Bachelor’s degree in HCI, Interaction Design, Design, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience working in at least a Senior Director, Product Design role leading multiple products and company-wide projects that go across all device types in a similar technology company.
  • Led and supervised in designing for monetization experiences, such as advertising, marketplace, commerce, payment, transaction, or designing for large-scale consumer-facing products.
  • Experience building upon expertise with various tools, platforms and methodologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with keen attention to detail, high craft, a strong bias for getting things done, and ability to lead multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • A highly-tuned thought process that yields creative solutions to big challenges.
  • A cross-functional authority who will use your leadership methodologies, and design skills to bring a user-centered point of view while building relationships with our partners, including Engineering, Product Management, and Marketing.
  • Led and grown a team of product designers by setting crisp goals, evolving our design practice, building team culture, and a leader who guides the team to best possible solution while thriving on cross-functional collaboration and actively working to improve the people, products, and process on your team and beyond.
  • Demonstrated experience partnering closely with VP/Senior Director-level Product Management and Engineering leaders to ensure flawless integration of design and development processes.
  • Self-motivation, resourcefulness, and a bias towards ownership, action, and problem-solving.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including the ability to concisely present design, analyses, insights, and complex ideas in the simplest way to the team, partners and collaborators including C-suite.
  • Ideally, experience as a Design Vice President or Chief Design Officer overseeing consumer-facing product designs in an organization of 50+ in the technology industry.
  • Experiences being not just leading Product Design, but also Content Design, 3D Art, UX Research, Design Operations, and all other aspects of Design and Creative teams.

For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits.

Annual Salary Range

$415,260$473,800 USD

Roles that are based in our San Mateo, CA Headquarters are in-office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional in-office on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
