About the Marketing Team

We’re a team of digital marketers that create engaging campaigns across channels and we work closely with cross-functional partners (Brand, Product, Engineering, and Data Science) to drive growth on both sides of Thumbtack’s marketplace. We are nimble, and innovative and our team’s mission is to help customers solve their home care needs by discovering and using Thumbtack’s platform.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Manager, SEO and CRO to drive the holistic health, performance, and growth of our website through strategic and technical excellence. This role will be responsible for overseeing organic search strategy, managing website health, diagnosing and resolving fluctuations in performance, and leading cross-functional SEO initiatives. As a senior member of the team, you will not only execute but also shape our long-term SEO strategy, ensuring alignment across product, engineering, content, and marketing teams.

What you’ll do

  • Develop & Execute SEO & AIO Growth Strategy – Build and drive a data-driven roadmap that fuels sustainable organic growth, optimizing for both traditional search and AI-powered discovery experiences.
  • Future-Proof for AI-Driven Search – Stay ahead of evolving AI search models (e.g., Google SGE, Bing Copilot, Perplexity) and develop strategies to optimize content for AI-generated results and answer engines.
  • Optimize Web Experience & Discoverability – Enhance site architecture, internal linking, structured data, and on-page elements to improve user engagement and visibility across search ecosystems.
  • Lead Overall Web Site Health – Conduct in-depth site-wide audits, monitor site performance (core web vitals, crawlability, indexation), and scalable solutions for technical SEO issues to ensure search engine accessibility.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership – Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Design, and Analytics to embed SEO and AI-driven strategies into platform and content development.
  • Performance Analytics & Insights – Analyze search trends, AI-driven ranking factors, and traffic shifts to identify growth opportunities and communicate impact to stakeholders.
  • Drive Content & Marketing Integration – Support content teams in optimizing for search intent, AI-generated powered recommendations, and best practices within a headless CMS.

In order to be successful, you must bring

  • Deep expertise in SEO, with 7+ years of experience managing large-scale dual sided marketplace websites.
  • Strong technical SEO skills, including site architecture, structured data, Core Web Vitals, log file analysis, and rendering optimization.
  • Ability to balance execution with strategic thinking and drive cross-functional initiatives with measurable business impact.
  • Proficiency in SEO analytics tools (Google Search Console, BrightEdge, Ahrefs, SimilarWeb, SEMRush, OnCrawl, Screaming Frog, etc.).
  • Experience leading SEO projects in an agile product/engineering environment and working with sprint planning.
  • CRO Expertise & Experimentation – Strong background in A/B testing, multivariate testing, and user behavior analysis to optimize conversion paths. Experience with tools like Optimizely, VWO, Google Optimize, or equivalent.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making – Proficiency in analyzing user journeys, heatmaps, and funnel performance using Google Analytics, Amplitude, Fullstory, Hotjar, or similar to drive UX and conversion improvements.
  • Strong data analysis skills, with the ability to translate insights into actionable recommendations.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience influencing cross-functional teams.

Expected salary ranges

  • For candidates living in San Francisco / Bay Area, San Jose, New York City, or Seattle metros, the expected salary range for the role is currently $154,800 - $189,200. 
  • For candidates living in Austin, TX or Washington DC metros or in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, or Washington states, the expected salary range for the role is currently $139,300 - $170,300. 
  • For candidates living in all other US locations, the expected salary range for this role is currently $131,600 - $160,800.

Actual offered salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as calibrated job level, qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.
