About Paytient:
We’re on a mission to help people better access and afford care.

Every day, millions of people, and their loved ones, need to see a doctor. For most of us, that moment is an uncertain one - we’re unsure of what’s wrong, who to go to, how long it’ll take to be seen, when we’ll feel better, and what it’ll cost.

Paytient partners with thoughtful employers and health plans who understand the impact of that moment and want to ensure that every one of their plan members are easily able to access and afford care. Our clients understand that an improved ability to self-pay for care changes patient behavior and creates value for the health plan.  This founding belief is becoming an emerging standard of care in health plan design and is now, in fact, a mandatory capability in some governmental health plans. Founded in 2018, Paytient is now part of nearly 6,000 employer health plans and providing certainty that people are better able to access and afford care.

We’re looking for passionate, collaborative builders to join our team and help us create a future where everyone can more easily access and afford care.

About The Role:

Paytient is seeking a highly motivated and experienced external-facing senior consulting actuary to join our growing team in a non-traditional actuarial role. This is a unique opportunity to leverage your actuarial expertise to not only build and maintain strong client relationships but also to actively shape the future of healthcare through developing and enhancing innovative healthcare technology solutions. You will be a key point of contact for our prospects and clients, providing insightful analyses and strategic recommendations. Critical components of this role will include designing creative pricing structures for varying client types, identifying and quantifying levers of value for our partners, facilitating consultative sales conversations, and influencing market trends and behaviors using public speaking and thought-leadership pieces.

Our "remote with roots" model allows us to work where we thrive and gather as needed, often in our home office in Columbia, Missouri. This role can be performed from anywhere in the continental U.S., with the exception of Montana.

What You'll Do:

  • Serve as the primary actuarial contact for assigned clients, building and nurturing strong relationships. This will involve understanding their unique challenges and opportunities within healthcare across all stakeholders (employers, commercial payors, government payors, providers, PBMs, and pharma).
  • Translate client needs and industry trends into innovative actuarial solutions, pushing the boundaries of traditional actuarial practice.
  • Conduct complex actuarial analyses, including pricing and risk modeling, but with a focus on applying these techniques in novel ways within healthcare.
  • Prepare and present financial models, value propositions, and pricing strategies to clients, clearly communicating complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, emphasizing the impact on their business.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging actuarial methodologies, with a particular focus on how these impact healthcare and create opportunities for value creation.
  • Analyze client data to assess the potential impact of Paytient’s offerings on their cost structure and member health.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to tailor our solutions to meet the specific needs of each client, including supporting ongoing product development by providing actuarial insights and feedback based on client interactions.
  • Develop and share thought leadership content focusing on the intersection of actuarial science and healthcare, including thought leadership on identifying and maximizing healthcare spend value. This includes writing white papers, articles for industry publications, blog posts, and presenting at industry conferences and webinars.

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
  • FSA or ASA designation required.  MAAA highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare risk management and financial modeling.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex actuarial concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working directly with health plans or insurers is a plus.

Benefits We Offer:

  • Medical, dental and vision insurance
  • $4,300 annual HSA contribution
  • Paytient Health Payment Account (HPA)
  • Monthly lifestyle spending stipend
  • 33 days of annual PTO
  • 401k plan access with a 4% employer match
  • Up to 16 weeks of fully-paid parental leave
  • Stock options in Paytient
  • ...and more!
