Senior Backend Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Backend Engineer who will be instrumental in building and maintaining the Creator Pay product, a critical tool that enables clients to manage end-to-end creator payments. This role involves handling workflows from funding and balance management to automatic payout processing and payment reporting. We're seeking someone with deep experience in payments architecture, integration with third-party financial services, and scaling applications for high availability.

In this role, you’ll get to: 

  • Lead the backend development of CreatorIQ’s Creator Pay product, taking ownership of backend services and APIs to ensure they are robust, scalable, and performant.

  • Collaborate closely with the tech lead and full stack developer to design and implement backend solutions, focusing on high availability, low-latency performance, and efficient processing of large-scale transactions.

  • Build and integrate with third-party financial services and payment gateways, ensuring secure and seamless end-to-end payment workflows.

  • Implement and maintain low-latency reporting services to support clients' needs for detailed, real-time payment tracking and reporting.

  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and maintain a high level of security around sensitive payment data.

  • Work on the architecture and development of scalable, flexible payment routing workflows and rules engines that enhance the platform’s functionality.

  • Optimize databases and backend systems for performance and scalability, ensuring smooth operation under heavy transaction loads.

  • Collaborate with the product manager and other teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions that improve payment features and performance.

  • Drive backend development best practices, including automated testing, code quality standards, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.

Who you are and what you’ll need for this position

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

  • 5-7+ years of experience in backend development.

  • Proficiency in AWS tools, SQL Server, Python, PHP, NodeJS, TypeScript, Apache Spark, Delta Lake/Iceberg, and CI/CD practices, specifically using GitLab.

  • Experience in integrating with third-party payment providers (e.g., Tipalti, PayPal, Stripe, or others) is a plus.

  • Experience building complex workflows and rules engines or experience with AWS Step Functions is a plus.

  • Strong understanding of backend frameworks and languages.

  • Proven experience in developing high-performance, scalable backend services.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively.

  • Strong communication skills for effective cross-functional collaboration.
