The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and creative Scientist 3 to join the Department of Antibody Engineering in Genentech Research and Development (gRED), where we develop transformative antibody drugs through pioneering science and technology. This individual will contribute to biologics portfolio projects by discovering and engineering next-generation antibody-based therapeutic molecules. Additionally, this individual will work on technology projects to evaluate and implement innovative technologies aimed at enhancing our antibody discovery and engineering workflows. The role involves designing and conducting hands-on laboratory experiments for the discovery, engineering, and characterization of antibodies, as well as analyzing and interpreting data to guide project decisions.

Who You Are

  • You have a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Biophysics, Molecular and Cell Biology, Structural Biology, Chemical Biology, or related disciplines, or a BS/MS degree with 8+ years of industry research experience. 

  • Technical expertise in protein characterization and engineering, and molecular biology techniques are essential. 

  • Highly motivated individual with proactive and resourceful problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills. 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential for success in this role. 

  • Sustained record of productivity in the form of publications or patents. 

  • Passionate about tackling complex scientific problems in a cross-functional and collaborative environment, with a commitment to translational science.

Preferred

  • Research experience with antibodies or antibody-based molecules is desirable but not essential. 

  • Experience with cell-based assays is a plus. 

  • Proficiency in computational methods and data science for protein design is a plus.

 The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $101,200 - $188,200. Annual Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.  A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.  This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
