Who we are

The problem: Every minute matters in fire response. As climate change amplifies the intensity of wildfires—with longer fire seasons, dryer fuels, and faster winds—new ignitions spread faster and put more communities at risk. Today, most wildfires are detected by bystanders and reported via 911, meaning it can take hours to detect a fire, verify its exact location and size, and dispatch first responders. Fire authorities need a faster way to detect, confirm, and pinpoint fires so that they can quickly respond—preventing small flare-ups from becoming devastating infernos.

About Pano: Pano is a venture-backed early-stage climate tech startup that is the leader in wildfire early detection, leveraging the latest advancements in IoT, AI, satellites, and SaaS software to deliver actionable intelligence to customers. Pano leverages mountaintop cameras and satellites to detect the first traces of smoke and put real-time fire images in the hands of asset owners and first responders to speed up containment. Pano is already partnering with major utilities, fire authorities, and government agencies in the USA and Australia. Recent media coverage includes being named one of the Top 10 most innovative companies in AI of 2023 by FastCompany and recipient of the Innovative Mobile Service and Application Award at Mobile World Congress through our partnership with T-Mobile.

Pano brings together a diverse team bridging frontline, wildland firefighting experience with best-in-class know-how in operations, logistics, artificial intelligence, and software. Our team is composed of experienced technology professionals from companies such as Apple, Cisco, Nest, DoorDash and Meta. Headquartered in San Francisco with an office and factory in the Mission District, our hybrid team works from locations around the world. Founded in mid-2020, we’ve raised over $40M from leading VC funds.

The Role

As a member of our product team you will nurture and grow how our product enables emergency managers and wildland firefighters to protect lives, communities, and our forests. We support customers across multiple industries (utilities, forestry, renewables, etc) that face an ever-increasing risk of wildfire and a growing Wildland Urban Interface. Your core responsibility will be to lead collaboration with engineering, design, customer success, and operations to discover useful, usable, and feasible capabilities that bring clear value to our users and support our mission. You also develop empathy for your customers so you can optimally translate those opportunities into well-defined problems for your partners in engineering and design to seek solutions to. As a champion for your product domain you are the voice of the customer, driving transformation in your product and the organization.

What you’ll do

  • Define and manage the entire product lifecycle from concept and definition through development, detailed product specifications, and launch, in close collaboration with engineering and design.
  • Influence the product line strategy and roadmap, including long-term vision, user segment insights, technical innovation, market trends, and platform capabilities.
  • Be the voice of the customer, curating product definitions and communicating requirements from our customers.
  • Drive decision-making on nuanced product trade-offs informed by key user journeys, technical insights, and product strategy.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with teams such as marketing, sales, and customer support to ensure cohesive product development and launch.
  • Monitor and analyze product performance, using data-driven insights to inform continuous improvement and identify new opportunities.
  • Champion user-centered design principles, ensuring that the user experience is at the forefront of product development.

What you’ll bring

  • 5-7 years of experience in product management.
  • BS/BA Degree in a technology-related field or equivalent experience.
  • A track record of shipping successful products
  • The technical chops to learn new tools, technologies, and concepts to work collaboratively together with engineering and customers.
  • Self-motivated with an ability to work fast and prioritize different tasks that are sometimes ambiguous.
  • Humility, empathy and open-mindedness - no egos.

Nice to have

  • Experience working in an early-stage startup ( 100 engineers).
  • Experience building AI products, complex UX workflows, and/or enterprise software.
  • Experience working on observability, mapping, monitoring, and/or alerting products.
  • A passion for climate change adaptation and/or firefighting.

Pano is an equal opportunity employer committed to recruiting and supporting our team-members regardless of where they come from. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status.
