Position Overview

The Principal Information Developer plans, develops, writes, updates, and publishes documents and related files that are part of InfoDev's external and internal content.


Essential Job Functions

  • Develop expertise in software components of our products (Flow and Assure, others if the candidate desires)
  • Participate in the software teams’ planning sessions to the extent necessary to produce release notes for both applications in sync with software releases (GA to customers; occasionally for specific customers as requested)
  • Update the User Guides for both applications when needed
  • Collaborate with InfoDev team to evaluate Help file solutions
  • Learn to use the applications to test the content being developed
  • Participate in developing processes, procedures, and documentation as directed by supervisor
  • Manage own information development projects with a minimum of oversight, and with attention to shifting due dates
  • Collaborate with others to create a doc set that is consistent, accurately, timely, and customer-worthy
  • Use professional concepts in accordance with Velo3D’s objectives to solve complex issues in creative and effective ways
  • Consult with Software Developers when needed to report bugs or to suggest product improvements
  • Contributes to team discussions of InfoDev processes and methods, adding value to our “brain-trust”
  • Follow Velo3D protocols for security, safety, access, scheduling, and communications
  • Communicate daily activities; participate in team and other assigned meetings
  • Interpret Marketing schedules and messaging to produce timely content aligned with the way we should write about the product for end users
  • Other duties as needed or required

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree from an accredited university, or equivalent experience. 
  • 6-8 years of demonstrated experience in the software field
  • Expert writing and technical skills for content development
  • Expert editing skills
  • Expert knowledge of emerging trends in the profession
  • Very knowledgeable about User Experience design
  • Skilled with different authoring systems
  • Minimum 3 years project leadership experience
  • User Help expertise (design experience is a plus)
  • AutoCAD experience
  • Startup experience
  • Content repository and version control knowledge
  • Content Management System experience
  • Graphics/illustration experience

Other Requirements

  • Independent operator: Deliverables produced on time and of high quality with minimal oversight. Candidates should provide examples of work product they have developed under as an independent writer.
  • Effective communicator: Ability to clearly articulate end user content, action plans, bug/work item descriptions. Interviews software developers verbally and in writing to increase product knowledge and get to the details of features and bugs.
  • Attention to details/focus on quality: Quickly develops understanding of information development tools and procedures. Mindful of details and acts with accuracy. Is dedicated to the editing, validation, SME review, and final edits that it takes to release a quality document to end users. The candidate should describe a typical review and approvals cycle with confidence.
  • User focus: The InfoDev organization is only as good as its doc set. Candidates should provide examples of concise, well written documents that are clear and easy to use. The writer must be experienced in writing for specific audiences using consistent and efficient language, diagrams, and other focus-creating formatting.
  • Technical aptitude: Learns quickly when products have changed in a fast-paced environment. Strengthens the InfoDev organization by bringing other areas of expertise to the group, such as version control, structured content development, or multi-channel publishing.
  • Growth mindset: Adapts to fast-changing conditions with good will; understands how quickly software changes, meanwhile is dedicated to continuous improvement in work product and processes.
  • Acts with Integrity & Trust: Widely trusted, direct, truthful and is a person of high character. Acts consistently and in line with a clear and visible set of values and beliefs. Shares appropriate information at the right level with the right parties at the right time. Passes all background checks.

Physical Demands/Requirements

  • Working at a desk for extended periods of time.
  • Coming into the office or other Velo3D locations for specific manager-defined events.
  • Must wear steel-toed boots and protective eye-wear if visiting Manufacturing or the Lab systems outside the defined safe areas. Other personal protective equipment as applicable (e.g., if exposed to metal powder).
  • High frequency of computer keyboarding.
  • High frequency of viewing a computer monitor.

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The starting base salary for this full-time position is between $166,488 and $222,460. This salary range reflects the minimum and maximum target for this position in the U.S. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as work experience, job-related skills, related education, work location, and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. In addition to a competitive base salary and a comprehensive benefits package, this position may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and equity program, as applicable.
