As a Power Electronics Engineer, you'll design and test power converters and systems for satellites, requiring collaboration and innovative problem-solving.
The summary above was generated by AI

As a team, we’ve launched five satellites into orbit, signed ten commercial deals worth over $1 billion in revenue, raised over $750 million from top global investors, and recruited a team of over 400 world-class engineers. We all work out of our (legendary) San Francisco office, which was once used to build ships during the World Wars.

Our satellites, which operate from geostationary orbit (GEO), weigh only 400 kg and utilize a proprietary software-defined radio payload. Each satellite can connect over two million people, and we’re very excited for the impact we’ll soon have in the Philippines, Peru, Mexico, and more!

Backed by substantial funding and a passionate, collaborative team, we offer a rewarding work environment where you'll learn and make a significant impact, no matter where you are in your career.

Power Electronics Engineer

As a Power Electronics Engineer, you will be tasked with conceptualizing, designing, testing, validating, and otherwise owning power converters and power systems. You will work with a range of multidisciplinary team members to engineer the best solution, trading size, weight, cost, power efficiency, thermal management, and other key requirements.
You will be joining an established team of experienced power engineers working to create the next generation of power conversion on our next generation satellites. Day-to-day will include simulations, schematic, layout, and hands-on board bring-up, debugging, and optimizing. Every day is a new exciting challenge to build what hasn't been built, and a new exciting opportunity to put your skills to the test engineering the future of the space industry.

Role

  • Design kW-level power systems for our satellites
  • Manage and control key components such as solar panel arrays, power regulation and distribution, and high-density batteries
  • Integrate these systems into the spacecraft by working closely with the rest of the team
  • Assist in recruiting, interviewing, and hiring additional teammates to our rapidly-growing team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • 3-9+ years of experience
  • A passion for hardware development, including working in a fast-paced environment and hands-on design and development
  • Experience with Altium or similar PCB design software
  • Experience in designing, building, and testing analog and digital circuits
  • Power electronics experience
  • PCB design experience
  • US Citizenship
  • Ability to obtain DoD Secret Clearance

Bonus

  • Experience with designing for fault tolerance, especially to withstand a radiation environment
  • Experience with photovoltaics and MPPTs
  • Experience with Li-ion batteries and management systems
  • Experience with magnetics in power electronics
  • EMI/EMC experience
