The Role

Company Description
It all started with an idea at Block in 2013. Initially built to take the pain out of peer-to-peer payments, Cash App has gone from a simple product with a single purpose to a dynamic ecosystem, developing unique financial products, including Afterpay/Clearpay, to provide a better way to send, spend, invest, borrow and save to our 47 million monthly active customers. We want to redefine the world's relationship with money to make it more relatable, instantly available, and universally accessible.
Today, Cash App has thousands of employees working globally across office and remote locations, with a culture geared toward innovation, collaboration and impact. We've been a distributed team since day one, and many of our roles can be done remotely from the countries where Cash App operates. No matter the location, we tailor our experience to ensure our employees are creative, productive, and happy.

Job Description

The Cash App Trust organization exists to build trust and expand access in Cash App's Ecosystem. We are only successful as a business if our customers feel secure and trust us with their money, and so we take it as a duty to be worthy of that trust. In line with Cash App and Block's mission of Economic Empowerment, we want to expand access to the banking system so that people who are normally locked out have access to powerful wealth building tools. The healthy tension between these two goals is where we live and thrive.

As part of the Mobile engineering team for Cash App Trust Client, you'll provide Cash App customers reliable, easy, and secure access to their accounts. As the Engineering Manager for the Identity and Transfers team, you will be personally responsible for the growth of the mobile engineers on this team; collaborating with your fellow product, design, and server partners on decisions that will directly impact this product; looking out at new technologies and evaluating how they could positively impact the way our customers interact with Cash App everywhere. Identity owns Identity Verification (through electronic or document upload), Product Limits and Eligibility, Source of Wealth and Source of Funds, and Transfers owns moving money in and out of Cash App. More broadly, Trust owns login, signup, account security, account controls and scam protection among other areas. These experiences and platforms are pivotal to Cash App customers as we strive towards economic empowerment.

  • Manage and grow a team of product-focused mobile engineers.
  • Foster a human-centered culture that supports the team in growing together.
  • Provide both technical and career guidance for individuals and managers on your team.
  • Create a tightly aligned and collaborative partnership between the client and server engineering teams, product, design, product data science and machine learning (e.g. shared roadmapping, prioritization, goals, etc.).
  • Contribute directly to quarterly and annual strategic plans.
  • Support the building of new, exciting functionality into an application designed to provide concrete value to our customers.
  • Own the growth, and maintenance of your product area.
  • Lead and participate in technical, design, and product discussions with your fellow partners on the team, and with other partners throughout the organization.
  • Continue building a world-class team through hiring, coaching, and ongoing development.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience managing and mentoring engineers (including providing feedback, investing in career growth, and growing teams).
  • Very strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills in an environment where precision and nuance matters.
  • A focus on the design of products from a customer perspective. We are here to make their lives easier, and want to ensure we're putting our customers first through every piece of engineering.
  • Commitment to the continuous improvement of yourself, your teammates, and our software.
  • An excitement for sharing your own ideas, and openness to the ideas of others.
  • Ideally, experience working on teams that build Trust with customers or tackle sensitive subject matters (Trust & Safety teams or equivalent: privacy, security, equity, integrity, user safety, risk management, compliance)

  • [iOS] Swift, UIKit, SwiftUI, SQLite
  • [Android] Compose, Coroutines, Molecule, SQLDelight, Retrofit, OkHttp, Wire, Moshi, Okio, Picasso, KotlinPoet
  • Unit tests, snapshot tests, integration tests
  • Accessibility

What We Do

Block, Inc. (NYSE: SQ) is a global technology company with a focus on financial services. Made up of Square, Cash App, TIDAL, and TBD, we build tools to help more people access the economy.

Square helps sellers run and grow their businesses with its integrated ecosystem of commerce solutions, business software, and banking services. With Cash App, anyone can easily send, spend, or invest their money in stocks or Bitcoin. Spiral (formerly Square Crypto) builds and funds free, open-source Bitcoin projects. Artists use TIDAL to help them succeed as entrepreneurs and connect more deeply with fans. TBD is building an open developer platform to make it easier to access Bitcoin and other blockchain technologies without having to go through an institution.

Why Work With Us

Across our ecosystem, we’re working to help our diverse audiences — sellers, individuals, artists, fans, developers, and all the people in between — overcome barriers to access the economy.
