An Overview of This Role

In this role, you'll collaborate with various GitLab team members and stakeholders to deliver practical legal guidance that mitigates risks while supporting the partner ecosystem business objectives. Your responsibilities will include providing advice on and creating templates and policies, staying vigilant about legal developments and emerging risks to develop innovative solutions, handling contract review, drafting, and negotiations, and establishing effective systems and documentation in support of the company's strategic growth across the partner ecosystem.

What You’ll do

  • Partner with team members and stakeholders across GitLab to provide pragmatic advice to minimize legal risks while advancing the goals of the partner ecosystem business.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial agreements including partnership agreements, licensing deals, distribution arrangements, strategic alliances and other go to market initiatives. 
  • Assist with the development and maintaining of standardized agreement templates, processes and policies to help streamline legal support. 
  • Advise on intellectual property matters related to technology integrations, APIs, and partner solutions
  • Monitor relevant regulatory developments that may impact the ecosystem strategy
  • Support due diligence processes for potential partnerships and expansion of the partner ecosystem. 
  • Build the necessary processes, systems, and documentation to improve legal department processes and resources.

What You’ll Bring

  • JD degree and active bar membership.
  • 4+ years of relevant legal experience, with focus on technology transactions and experience with partner/ecosystem transactions (reseller, distributor, managed service, subcontractors, etc.) strongly preferred.
  • Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial transactions; experience with technology and partner/ecosystem transactions strongly preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across business units and internal functions to efficiently resolve business issues and build strong relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Practical yet creative problem-solving approach that emphasizes addressing business needs while protecting GitLab’s interests.
  • Proactive, dynamic, and result driven self starter with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly to non-legal colleagues and customers.
  • Familiarity working across the globe, to support multiple time zones and cultures. 
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, the ability to interface effectively with all business functions throughout the organization with a highly responsive and service-oriented attitude.
  • Sound and practical business judgment and ability to balance legal considerations with business objectives.
  • Ability to maintain composure and effectiveness under pressure, especially during high-stakes negotiations.
  • Previous experience in a remote work environment would be an added advantage.
  • Ability to use G-Suite, CLM tools and willingness to learn to use GitLab.

The base salary range for this role’s listed level is currently for residents of listed locations only. Grade level and salary ranges are determined through interviews and a review of education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant, equity with other team members, and alignment with market data. See more information on our benefits and equity. Sales roles are also eligible for incentive pay targeted at up to 100% of the offered base salary.

$100,800$216,000 USD
