At Target, we believe in our leaders having meaningful experiences that help them build and develop skills for a career. The role of a Human Resources Team Leader can provide you with the skills and experience of:   

  • Planning HR department daily/weekly workload to support HR business priorities 

  • Read financial reporting and interpret data 

  • Federal, state and local employment laws  

  • Recruiting and event organization   

  • Microsoft Office Suite computer and workforce management programs 

  • Effectively use scheduling software   

  • Experience leading a team of hourly Human Resource experts including: skills in interviewing, developing, coaching, evaluating and retaining talent   

 

As a Human Resources Team Leader, no two days are ever the same, but a typical day will most likely include the following responsibilities: 

  • Support leaders in creating and prioritizing an environment of inclusivity where teams value diverse voices and approaches, are authentic and respectful, and create equitable experiences. 

  • Foster a culture where teams love to work, and guests love to shop; recognize effective guest acknowledgement and connection and reward outstanding performance. 

  • Support the leadership team in timely completion of training execution. 

  • Lead orientation for new team members (including third party vendors) to enable them to provide service and a shopping experience that meets the needs of the guest. 

  • With guidance from your direct leader help the leadership team develop their teams based on career aspirations, individual skills and experiences and provide growth opportunities to retain talent. 

  • With guidance from your direct leader, support the development of leaders and help your peers promote a guest-centered environment. 

  • With guidance from your direct leader, help the store publish schedules that are compliant, meet the needs of the business and align with team member availability and desired hours. 

  • Be approachable and available for the team, lead a culture where team members feel heard and issues are quickly resolved, collaborate with appropriate leaders to take action as needed. 

  • With guidance from your direct leader, execute the store staffing strategy and implement recruiting efforts to help store leaders find, hire and onboard candidates with the right skills and experiences for their team. 

  • Lead a team of HR Experts who serve the total store team by solving problems, removing roadblocks and engaging each team member in a way that connects them to Target’s purpose. 

  • Deliver on all Human Resource programs to maximize team member engagement and minimize business disruption.  

  • Build relationships that are important to the local community and engage the store team on these initiatives. 

  • With guidance from your direct leader, establish clear goals and expectations and hold team members accountable to expectations. 

  • Understand financial objectives to maximize profitability and plan work to achieve area-specific and store goals.   

  • Model creating a welcoming experience by greeting guests as you and your team are completing daily tasks. 

  • Demonstrate how to engage with guests when assistance is needed, engage with guest in a welcoming way, and help solve their specific needs. 

  • Thank guests and let them know we’re happy they chose to shop at Target. 

  • Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety and compliance; lead and hold the team accountable to work in the same way. 

  • Lead and demonstrate a safety culture through modeling and recognizing safe behaviors, identifying and correcting hazards, holding team accountable to following safety expectations, assisting with incident response, and reporting/investigating injuries timely and accurately.  

  • Demonstrate inclusivity by valuing diverse voices and approaches, being authentic and respectful, and creating equitable experiences. 

  • Lead and demonstrate a culture of executing all best practices as outlined with team onboarding, learning and career growth; help close skill gaps through development, coaching and team interactions. 

  • Model the execution of physical security processes in order to enhance the instore security culture. 

  • Support merchandise protection strategies across the total store; including ordering, storage and application as directed by best practices. 

  • Address all store emergency and compliance needs including claims management and return-to-work program.  

  • All other duties based on business needs 

 

 

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • You thrive in a fast-moving, highly active and physically demanding role, where teamwork, flexibility, and creative problem solving are key to success.  

  • You are open to working a flexible work schedule with varying hours, days or shifts (including nights, weekends, holidays and other peak shopping times). 

 

The good news is that we have some amazing training that will help teach you everything you need to know to be a Human Resources Team Leader. But, there are a few skills you should have from the get-go: 

  • Previous experience using automated scheduling, time keeping and workforce management applications preferred, but not required 

  • High school diploma or equivalent 

  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older 

  • Strong cognitive skills, including problem analysis, decision making, financial and quantitative analysis 

  • Lead and hold others accountable 

  • Ability to communicate on multiple frequency devices and operate handheld scanners, and other technology equipment as directed. 

  • Work independently and as part of a team 

  • Manage workload and prioritize tasks independently 

  • Welcoming and helpful attitude towards all guests and other team members 

  • Effective communication skills

  • Access all areas of the building to respond to guest or team member issues 

  • Interpret instructions, reports and information 

  • Accurately handle cash register operations as needed. 

  • Frequently lifting or moving merchandise up to 10 pounds and occasionally lifting or moving merchandise up to 44 pounds, without additional assistance from others 

  • Flexible work schedule (e.g., nights, weekends and holidays); reliable and prompt attendance necessary.
