Our team delivers scientific computing and data-shared infrastructure services in several locations. We incubate, develop, and support new solutions to support our research and development organizations to enable science in Roche.
As an HPC DevOps Engineer, you will work with our scientists on Linux-based application needs and translate them into core infrastructure demands provided in partnership with our service providers. The successful candidate will have knowledge of Linux system administration, high performance compute, scripting and a DevOps approach to platform administration, ensuring our scientists and users have the best experience possible.
The Opportunity

Support operational platform activities on Linux systems, high performance computing (HPC), laboratory workstations and servers (focus on availability, tuning, performance, efficiency, change management).

Delivery of the scientific Linux application environment with a DevOps approach to platform administration.

Manage scientific application and data analysis toolset build system.

Contribute to workflow and job submission optimization activities.

Engage with customers and stakeholders to improve the whole lifecycle of services—from inception and design through deployment, operation and refinement.

Look for continuous improvement activities both in technical, teamwork, collaboration and process areas. Propose and contribute to continuous improvement activities.
Who You Are
-
Bachelor in Engineering or in a related technical discipline. Master is preferred.

A minimum of 6-9 years of experience working in a multi-national and fast changing environment. Healthcare industry experience is a plus.

Background in Linux/Unix Server technologies (RedHat, CentOS, Ubuntu plus Satellite / Foreman); Linux/Unix High-Performance Computing (HPC) Clusters configurations and workload managers (i.e., SLURM, IBM LSF, UGE, TORQUE).

Wide experience applying infrastructure automation tools, infrastructure as code, scripting languages, logging, monitoring and observability, infrastructure configuration, and applications; Infrastructure as code: AWX, Ansible, Jenkins, Puppet, Chef, SaltStack or equivalents.

Coding and scripting: PHP, Python, YAML, shell, Perl and/or Ruby or equivalents; distributed version control and source code management tools: GIT, bitbucket, github, gitlab or equivalent.

Monitoring and observability (e.g. LogicMonitor, Nagios, Ganglia, ELK).

Experience working according to DevOps principles, processes and tools as well as experience applying design thinking, lean, prioritization and agile methodologies to evolve services offered to partners.

Experience on Linux build and packaging tools (Make, CMake, Easybuild, RPM, Yum, etc.), working with installing and configuring scientific applications (e.g. Schrodinger, Moe, Bowtie, Gromacs, R, Python, Matlab, Topspin, Pipeline Pilot, etc.).

GPU for high-performance computing and AI workloads.
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Pleasanton, CA is $98,700 - $183,300. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
