Head of Software EngineeringAbout Us

The future of transportation is electric, and our software solves the most critical emerging grid integration challenges to ensure that the impending energy transition is clean, equitable, and resilient. Our enterprise solutions help the grid absorb the coming electrification wave with ease. Utilizing modern, cloud-native platform architecture and robust systems optimization, WeaveGrid’s software is built from the ground up to tackle the most critical network challenges while meeting the stringent regulatory, security, and reliability requirements of the utility industry.

About the Role

As WeaveGrid’s Head of Software Engineering, you’ll lead the engineering team at one of the most promising climate-focused software companies.  You will forge the technology vision and own execution, guide the team through growth, and ensure our software systems grow gracefully by orders of magnitude along several dimensions (to serve more utilities, more drivers, more vehicles, and integrate with more automakers and charging companies).

Hybrid In-Person

We are prioritizing candidates who are local to our San Francisco headquarters because many of our engineers and cross-functional leaders are office regulars, and we take pride in fostering a collaborative work culture.  However, we will also consider remote candidates who can fly out to San Francisco on a regular basis yet to be determined.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Strategic Leadership:
    • Define and execute the technical strategy in support of improved product performance, expanded capabilities, and greater reach.
    • Drive the development of scalable, secure, and reliable systems to support rapid growth.
    • Stay ahead of emerging technologies and industry trends to keep our product at the cutting edge.
  • Team Management:
    • Recruit, lead, mentor, and inspire the engineering team to achieve their best work.
    • Foster a culture of urgency, accountability, and focus.
    • Identify and address skill gaps, ensuring team readiness for upcoming challenges.
  • Operational Excellence:
    • Streamline engineering workflows and processes to improve efficiency and deliver faster time-to-market.
    • Establish robust testing, monitoring, and deployment pipelines to maintain high quality & reliability.
    • Collaborate closely with product management to align engineering priorities with business goals.
  • Strategic Collaboration:
    • Work cross-functionally with stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions.
    • Partner with the leadership team to align technical initiatives with overall company strategy.
    • Represent the engineering team in discussions with investors, customers, and other external partners as needed.

About You

  • Mission Driven: you care deeply about reducing carbon emissions and appreciate the opportunity to work in climate tech (note: climate tech experience NOT required).
  • Startup Mindset: business outcomes are your priority, and you have a track record of success leading full engineering teams at smaller startups (additional experience a bonus), navigating change, charting through ambiguity, and building foundation with efficiency and urgency.
  • People Influencer: you’re a magnet for high-caliber talent who wants to learn from you, and you motivate folks with a high bar to do their best work.  You also are an exemplar on how to tactfully collaborate with cross-functional departments to achieve strong business outcomes.
  • Technical Leader: you’re eager to unblock your teams by getting in the weeds to understand the challenges while staying focused on the big picture to inform your overall technical strategy.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of engineering experience, with 5+ years in leadership roles at a startup or high-growth company.
  • Success in scaling SaaS infrastructure to handle rapid growth and high performance.
  • Deep understanding of modern cloud-based architectures and technologies.
  • Strong decision-making skills, balancing technical excellence with speed and business priorities.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience with optimizing software that serves both consumer-facing and B2B audiences.
  • Background in climate tech preferred, but not required.

Total Rewards

The total compensation for this opportunity includes a base salary range of $220,000 - $285,000 plus equity (stock options) and benefits. This is our target cash compensation range and is subject to multiple factors including role, level, experience, and location. Please note that WeaveGrid may not necessarily hire individuals at or near the top of the base salary range. As you go through our interview process, our recruiter will work with you to identify a competitive base salary within the proposed range and combine it with an equity package to get you excited about your future at WeaveGrid.
