The Opportunity

Pharma Technical Technology (PTT) in Pharma Technical Operations (PT) ensures seamless industrialization and robust technical product management, focusing on safety, maintenance, and performance optimization.

Roche’s global Manufacturing Science and Technology (gMSAT) manages commercial products, new technologies, standardization, and risk mitigation, organized by large and small molecules, technology, and operations teams.

The Operations Group Lead, reporting to the Global Head of MSAT, leads a team driving product industrialization, process robustness, and efficiency. Responsibilities include providing second-level support, managing technology deployment, and ensuring supply reliability across Roche’s product portfolio. The role collaborates with internal and external networks, senior leadership, and governance forums to optimize processes and ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Leads and manages a network of approximately 20 senior-level process and technology experts. Accountable for coaching, developing, and engaging a global technical team to drive systematic process improvements, provide troubleshooting support, and enable technology deployment and real-life experimentation through pilot plants
  • Oversees an execution-driven team focused on industrializing products, improving process efficiency and robustness across the pharmaceutical portfolio, managing second-source transfers, and scaling new technologies in collaboration with internal and external manufacturing and technical development teams
  • Provides strategic oversight for portfolio-wide initiatives, including direct material changes and regulatory Health Authority requirements. Leads portfolio master plans, mitigates risks, drives improvements, and ensures alignment to execute global technical initiatives and multi-product activities
  • Leads the development, design, and execution of process validation studies using Quality by Design principles. Oversees validation studies for new technologies and collaborates with local MSAT groups to support Make-Assess-Release activities and troubleshoot issues in internal and external manufacturing networks
  • Sets the vision and strategy for process requirements, process improvements, and technology deployments in alignment with internal and external manufacturing networks. Actively contributes to PTT extended leadership to set PTT’s vision and priorities and drives digital and data initiatives
  • Collaborates with Technical Development, Quality, Manufacturing Sites, and tech transfer teams to align on process requirements, improvements, and technology deployments. Provides strategic oversight and technical expertise, representing the process and technological needs of the network in key forums and senior stakeholder interactions
  • Oversees a portfolio of complex cross-functional projects aimed at driving process improvements, technical standardization, and new technology implementation. Establishes a robust process performance ecosystem leveraging advanced data analytics and guides investment prioritization in long-term product health and continuous improvement initiatives. Ensures the team has the necessary processes, platforms, and tools to drive delivery

Who you are

  • Requires an advanced degree in a scientific discipline with at least 15 years of relevant experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, particularly in technical development, process development, operations/manufacturing, or related fields. Background in quality and/or regulatory is advantageous
  • Provides significant senior people leadership experience, leveraging advanced leadership skills. Responsible for coaching and developing a high-performing, globally distributed senior technical team and associated group leads. Cultivates leadership talent, enables global workforce planning, and manages a diverse network of leaders to achieve business success
  • Possesses deep technical expertise in DS or DP process development, improvement, and technology industrialization for large molecules. Demonstrates strategic agility, aligns with Roche’s leadership model, and combines strategic clarity with innovative and coaching capabilities
  • Owns and oversees global DS/DP portfolio plans, addressing cross-regional challenges, optimizing processes, and integrating new technologies while ensuring regulatory compliance. Leads multi-product strategic and industrialization initiatives, collaborating with internal teams, CDMOs, and health authorities to scale and commercialize new technologies
  • Represents Roche in key governance and industry forums, integrating external insights into Roche's strategic initiatives. Directs the creation and implementation of a global process performance ecosystem, leveraging advanced data analytics to drive continuous improvement and innovation across the product lifecycle. Fosters a collaborative environment, encouraging feedback, and connecting with industry stakeholders. Travel requirement is less than 10%

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $252,000 to $468,000 annually. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.  A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.  This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
