Finance Manager
📍 Remote | 💰 $90k USD base + $20k USD variable (uncapped) + equity
SAM Labs is transforming K–8 education with hands-on, creative learning experiences. As we grow, we're seeking a Finance Manager who will take full ownership of US accounting, general financial reporting, forecasting, and budgeting. This role is ideal for someone analytical, diligent, and detail-driven, with a passion for turning data into insight.
You’ll report directly to the VP of Finance and play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and strategic use of financial information across the company.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Ownership
- Own and manage all aspects of US accounting end-to-end, including general ledger, AP/AR, reconciliations, payroll, and tax compliance.
- Prepare and analyze monthly and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy, GAAP compliance, and timely month-end and year-end close.
- Ensure accurate and audit-ready tax filings, including sales tax, 1099s, and other federal/state requirements.
- Develop financial models and reports to support budgeting, forecasting, and decision-making.
Reporting & Actuals
- Prepare monthly financial reports to the Board, including variance analysis and insights.
- Consolidate financial actuals across global entities for internal and external reporting.
- Maintain and improve internal reporting systems and financial documentation.
Forecasting & Budgeting
- Own and continuously improve the company’s financial model, including forecasting and scenario planning.
- Lead the annual budget planning process, working cross-functionally to align plans and track performance.
- Provide analytical support for key decisions and investments.
Team Management
- Manage 1 direct report, providing structure and support.
- Build scalable processes and lay the groundwork for team expansion as the company grows.
Process Improvement
- Identify and implement enhancements to financial systems, workflows, and internal controls.
- Drive automation and standardization to improve data accuracy and reduce manual work.
You Have
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
- 8+ years of relevant experience in accounting and FP&A, preferably in a fast-paced or startup environment.
- Proven experience in US accounting, GAAP compliance, and financial reporting.
- Advanced Excel skills, including modeling, forecasting, and sensitivity analysis.
- Strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and ability to work independently.
- Experience with NetSuite, QuickBooks, or similar financial systems.
- Comfortable managing individual contributors and building processes from the ground up.
